Whatever happened to
the Ont. March of Dimes?
In 1970 the Rehabilitation
Foundation for the Disabled
changed its fund raising slogan
from the March of Dimes to the
Ability Fund. This was done for
several reasons: most people still
associate the "March of Dimes"
with polio and, as the Foundation
has been assisting handicapped
adults Since 1956 with various
disabilities, it was hoped that a

Present Foundation programs
include vocational and psycholo-
gical assessment, patient serv-
ices such as the provision of arti-
ficial limbs and wheelchairs and
job training and work opportuni-
ties. Fourteen perm -anent facili-
ties are presently being operated
in Ontario with service to remote
parts of the province also being
provided through travelling clin-
ics.

,vices are designed to develop the
ability which individuals request-
ing assistance have. A car acci-
” dent or stroke victim can become
self-sufficient again once his abil-
ities have been determined and

Softly, the old gentleman mur-

Weed control
short course
at Centralia
Centralia College of Agricul-
tural Technology has scheduled a
short course on weed control for
Feb. ,1 and 2. •
The two-day course will begin
at 9:30 a.rn, and end at 4:30 p.m. -
each day and will deal with vari-
ous weeds
ari ousweeds and their control. Also
covered will be problems con-
nected with weed spraying artd
guaiificatibns needed.
Some of the personnel at the
course will be Dr. John Bandeen
and Prof. Peter Southwell of the
University of Guelph, Rudy
Brown of the Ridgetown College
of Agricultural Technology,
Bruce Lobb 'of the 'Ontario De-
partment of Health, Mike Miller
of the Clinton Agriculture Office,
Bill .Taylor, a soil and crop
specialist and Dr. Al Hammell of
the Harrow Research. Station.
Registration in the course is
limited to the first 50 applica-
tions. Applications may be filed
with the county agricultural re-
preentatives in Bruce, Huron
and Perth.

BONNIE PENNINGTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Pennington of Brussels, was chosen Polar Daize Queen at
Brussels last week. Others competing were Joan Elliott, -
Karen Mutter, Lori McCutcheon and Debbie McCall. Miss
Pennington sang and played the guitar in tl'se talent section •
of the competition. Shd plans on entering the nursing pro
fessjon layer and is presently -a Grade 12 student at F. E1

Belmore Persona
Thomas O'Malley returned
home on the weekend from St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, where
he has been a patient since the
first week of December.
We now have ice in the Belmore
Arena. Several hockey games
were played last week and Satur-
day figure skating lessons began.
On Thursday night the Belmore
Novice Team played at Belgrave.
The score was 1-0 for Belmore
with Willie Stafford scoring for
Belmore.
The Belmore Tri -County
Squirts played' in Gorrie this

week. The score was Gorrie 9,
Belmore 2.
The Llsstowel W.O.A.A. Team
played at Belmore this week. The
score was Llistowel 8, Belmore 0.
The Belmore Tykes played at
Wirrgham this week. They lost but
played a noble game.
