Women and
Canada Savings Bonds
A pedigreed puppy was per-
hapss the most entertaining by-
product of Canada Savings
Bonds that turned up in a ran -
dom survey of women who buy
bonds. That one puppy has led
to dog shows, to another puppy,
and plans for eventual breeding
and selling fees.
Meanwhile. his 'owner is buy-
ing more bonds. She says she
is a bad saver. and finds bonds
a painless way roger some of
her salary out of harm's way.
She cashes some for Christmas
and puppy buying, and keeps
some for security.
There are as many reasons
why women buy Canada Say -
tngs Bonds as there are women
buying them. Six out of the
first seven women asked said
"Yes, they buy them" , and no
two had quite the same reason.
They buy them to make money,
to save money, to spend. money.
One, bank manager says he
can't prove more women are
buying Canada Savings Bonds
than men, but he says a lot of
them are. He says he thinks it
reflects a growing interest by
women in investments.
They represent a hope chest
to a young secretary. "I'm
saving for when I get married.
Not that. I have. any plans, mind
you, but I'm sure I will some
day. Besides, it's the only way
for me to save. I may say. I'll
put three or four dollars a week
in the bank, but I won't. If I
can get my hands on my mon-'
ey, I spend it -bit by bit. "
Someone else's mother has
just cashed part of hers for her
daughter's wedding. "I buy
them to have some security, but
1 had to cSith4ome'for the wed-
ding, and l's: glad to have

the money theta.
A young` married couple both
buy bonds and look on them as
their savings account. "My
husband was interested. but I
think I pushed -him into actual-
ly doing something about it,
We're both bad at saving', and
now 'we're trying to keep the
bonds until they mature. We
