The new CBC -Television series,' "The Bold Ones", is another Universal' production and so much like its first :fea- ture -film -length dramatic ser- ies "Name of the Game" that • it is easily identified as UnlV r - sal. Its introduction, its theme music, so much of what is "The Bold Ones", first belonged to 'Name of the Game' even to alternating its stories among three different sets of stars'. 'Bold One's', a 60-tninuteratl than 90 -minute series, stars in, rotation E. G. Marshall, John "0 Saxon and David Hartman; Burl" Ives, James Farentino and Jo - seph Campanella; and Leslie Nielsen and Hari Rhodes. All star in powerful modem -day dramas about the busy world in which they work --Marshall, Saxon and Hartman in medicine; Ives and his friends in law; Niel- • sen and Rhodes in police work. ('Nameof the Game' is life in the publishing world.) Some of the stars will be familiar to you. Marshall once starred as a lawyer. on "The De- fenders"; Burl Ives is a famous folk -singer when he's not act- ing; Leslie Nielsen is a native Canadian who hack starred on many U.S. and Canadian series; and Rhodes was once the star of the adventure series "Daktari". Jack Laird is executive produ-. cer of the series which could be a hit of the new season. Its new time slot is Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 p. m. and we see it on the CBC before it is shown on its home network, the NBC. ' 0--0--0 "McQueen" is the name of a man, and also the name of a series, a new CBC (Canadian) series to debut on September 23rd, just before 'Bold Ones', at 9 p. m. He is a newspaper- man who 'writes a column, a column that tries to solve the problems that people meet in their daily lives. He works for a big -city daily and his prob- lems come from all types of people and are of all types. The research for McQueen was done mainly at the offices of The Toronto Telegram which runs a column of this type, so no doubt many of the problems are taken fromreal-life advent- ures. The series was created by Toronto writer George Salverson and'stars Toronto actor Ted Fol- lows in the title role. Guest stars include Austin Willis, Lor- raine Thomson, George Murray,. Patricia Collins, Pat Galloway, Gillie Fenwick, Paul Harding and Barbara Chilcott. The first episode is entitled "There's A Car .Upside Down on my Lawn", and that would ' be a problem for anyone! The second episode on the 30th is the segment which. features Wingham's own Ric Wellwood in a role. Be sure to watch, and let Ric know how you enjoy it!. 0=-0--0 For local people come two interesting news items about former members of the Wing - ham Towne Players: on August 30th, Ted Follows, Ric Well - wood and several other well- known people attended a wed- ding In Toronto, that of Miss Judi Small who formerly lived in Wingham and performed with the Players. The bridegroom is a teacher of creative drama . from Exeter, England, who will be teaching on special assign- ments in Czechoslovakia and Madrid, Spain. Another form- - er Towne Player, Brian Nord- lund, has advanced to roles on the CBC, one on the aforemen- tioned "McQueen" series, so'we will have another familiar face to be watching for. All good wishes go to -these two for the future; it's always nice to hear about old friends. Bowling THURSDAY MIXED The Thursday night mixed bowling league opens on Sep- tember 25th. The executive held a meeting and the teams were drawn up with the sched- ule starting on 'September 25th. Six new couples have been added to the league this year.
