The Observation Post
BY THE OLD GUNNER
All seems to be -in readiness
for our week -end at Ipperwash.
A real good turn out is expect-
ed. So far, our returns from
questionnaires..sent to all ranks
indicates that we may exceed
our crystal ball forecast of 80,
all ranks.
There is a matter of some
very fine timing and footwork
to be done by 100 Bty in Listo-
wel. They are to accomplish
two events in one week -end.
The annual classification and
pay parade at Ipperwash, then
Capt. Ted Smith's wedding.
There , is no doubt that it will
be done in fine fashion. The
Gunners are noted for being ver-
satile;

satile... E.
The transport situation has
not improved a, bit. The possi-
.bility exists that we may have
to run a shuttle service with
the few vehicles we have left
that are operational.
At long last, we may be get. -
ting our replacement Perman-
ent
Quartermaster Assistant
(PQMA) from the Regular Force,
in the .person of one Warrant
Officer Len Barton, RCOC. Len
is, now stationed at Cdn. Forces.
Station, Cobourg. The unit has
not been told officially, and
the posting is not supposed to
take effect until 17 Nov. 69.
However, WO Barton dropped
into the -Armoury last week, and
WO Morin has had some discus-
sion with officials at HQ, west-
ern Ontario District, regarding
the matter.. WO Barton would
like to get going immediately
and the unit would like to,have
him here immediately.
Len is married with three.
children, a boy 14 and twogirls,
12 and 11. .He hails originally
from England and is now in his
20t12: year of service with the
Cdn.' Forces. Len has served
with the Prinoess Patricia's Cdn.
Light Infantry. He also served
with PPCLI in Korea where he
• was very severely wounded,
which caused his transfer from
the PPCLI to the Royal Canadi-
an Ordance Corps. He is most
interested in coming here to
serve 21 Field Regiment. T o
quote him,. "This will be my
first::.exPerience-wuith theme ilirla
and I am interested in them and

Machans capture
championship
The most exciting game in
the Industrial League finals was
played at the local diamond
last Thursday evening. Machan
Hardware defeated Stanley -
Berry Ltd. 9-8 in a very close
contest.
Fine pitching by both pitch-
ers and home run slams by Ken
Saxton and Berry Fryfogle help-
ed .to tighten the excitement.
The win for the Machan
Hardware crew gave them the
third victory needed to clinch
the championship finals and the
Industrial Championship trophy.
This same club finished the
regular. season in first place,
winning the Beaver Lumber tro-
phy, a new award donated by
the local Beaver Lumber Com-
pany management. Both awards
will be presented to the Machan
Hardware team at the. Industrial
League banquet and dance. on
October 17th.
The hard-working Industrial
League executive would like to
thank the many fans who sup-
ported the league all summer...
