organist played "Grandfather's
Clock" and "The Bells of St..
Marys". Mrs. Millan Moore
gave readings, • " Boy in the
Town" and "Papa and the Boy".
Several of the officers from
the host and visiting branches
answered roll can by teiUn
how to stare clothing for winter
and for summer.
The motto, "It takes powder
to catch a man but it -takes bak-
ing powder to keep him?, was
given by Mrs. Elgin Johnston.
She said when a young than con-
templates marriage he often
looks .for -a petite figure, golden
locks and a bewitching somal,
if al' er t ie fust year'tire .bn
has kept her charms and i s a
good cook, the chances of a
happy marriage are almost al --
ways a reality. Young wives •
were 'urged .to use simple,easily
digested food, fresh fruit and
vegetables in their menus. Mrs.
Johnston suggested that they use
contrasts in color and try new
recipes. "Keep, within the bud-
get and learn to compare costs,"
she said. The wife who sets a
neat table, is punctual ' with
meals and serves mouth-water-
ing goodies is aware that .the
• old 'adage, "The way to • a man's
heart Is through his stomach ",
remains true.
The band played another
group .of numbers and Mrs. Geo.
Young of the Kairshea W.I.
gave a reading, "How to Keep
House".
After lunch was served Mrs..
Raymond Redmond spoke of the
crafts carried -out at the hospi-
tal and exhibited some of the
work. The ladies contributed
beads and o t h e r pieces of
jewellery to be used by the pa-
tients in their crafts and the
members were requested to take
patches suitable for quilts to the -
next meeting. These will also
be sent to the hospital.
The members were given
tickets to sell for the old tyme
dance on October 24. No tick-
ets will be sold at the door.
