The one nice thing about
Kraft Music Hall's occasional
summer shows from Hawaii is
•the gotgeOUs SCenetylll thin •
State. 'The sand and surf make
you want to pack and leave as
soon as the show is over. Music,„
from Hawaii- is original and me-
lodic which again sets it apart
as different from every other
of the 50- states. The state's
• biggest star is Don Ho, which
makes me wonder how bad the
others, are! He is a bore and
about the poorest host you could
find ariywhere. His voice
whether he is singing' or speak-
ing, sounds like an electric
shaver humming, and though he
thinks his Jokes are funny, they
fall flat for the listener,

Producer' oiCthe show bring
little originality to it; they
count on Hawaii to make it a
great show, It helps, but more
is needed than beauty. Ho's
co-stars are good performers,
but present very little' new ma-
terial. His guest last week, Rod
McKuen, adds to, any. show, par-
ticularly on locations such as
these where nature providessuch
beautiful background for the
gorgeous words and music he
'mites. Ho and his cast will be
back again on September 8th,
a Monday for a change, at 8
p.m., for the final show of the
season. His- guests will be com-
edian Pat Henry and the singing
Everly Brothers who will sing
some of their hits ( "Dr ea m ",
" Belir d Dog ", and. "Bye, Bye
Love'). Maybe, if we re lucky,
Ho will get. stranded 011 one of
the islands and miss the show!

In an earlier column, I told
you that Bonanza would be re-
placed by a Canadian series
next season, on Sundays at 9.
I figured the popular western
would be back at a different
time and I was right. It is be-
ing moved to. Thursday:.evenings
at 9, so western fans wilthave
to plan to stay home Thursdays
now instead of Sundays. The
same cast will be back --Lorne
Greene as Pa, 'Michael Landon
and Dan Blocker as his sons, and
David Canary as Candy. This
marks the tenth year for "Bonan-.
za" which is still among the
top. in television ratings.' About
the only change all that time
has been the absence the past
few years of third son Adam
(Pernell Roberts) who wanted out
to do other ildngs, and was re-
placed by rani hand Candy.

The followng.night, Sep -
tember 12th, at 8, the U.S. 's
most popular show -will debut
on the CBC..Television network.
"Rowan and Martin's Laugh -In" "
previously was seen in•Canada
on the CTV network, and is now
Joining' the CBC. It stars Dan
Rowan and Dick Martin, with
their former co-stars Judy Crane
Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, Hen-
ry Gibson, Goldie Hawn, Gary
Owens, Alan Sues and Jo Anne
Worley. New starS will be
Teresa Graves, Pamela Rodgers,
Jeremy Lloyd and Byron Gilliam
There are also six new writers
on the seri6, and a new direc-
tor, Mark Warren, who once.
worked for the CBC on such
shows as The Juliette Show, "A
World of Music", and "In Per-
son". Lask year he worked on
U.S. variety shows. Guests on
the first show are Debbie Rey-
nolds and Peter Sellers.
Next Stmday evening, the
7th, you will have an oppertun-
ity to see 'a special entitled •
"The M aldng of the President
1968", the story of last year's
presidential campaign that end-
ed with the election of Richard
Nixon as President of the United
States. It is a 90 -minute spe-

• The Observation Post
• BY THE OLD GUNNER
The training conference we
referred to last week was held
as scheduled. Some very in-
teresting statistics came tolight. •
The unit, all three batteries,
have upgraded 80 people in var-
iousliade and promotional •
courses. The,period covered).
was from 1 Oct 68 to 29.Aug 69.
Certainly -this is the best way.to
judge a unic's performance:
These Statistics should have ,
-sOrne bearing onany d ecision
regarding the impending cuts of
militia units. .
• :Unit training will take the
same form as last year. When
you are winning, you do not
change the combination. There
are;• however, some flies in. -the
ointment. One is that the in-
structional cadre from London
hat been drastically reduced'
and valuable training assistance
• diese•Regular Force,peoplehave
been giving toMilitia units will
be reduced accordingly. Two, .
it the fact that there are no re-
placement vehicles for those
vehicles. which have wom out
.and been condemned. This
will no doubt have its effect on
our local unit. Three, no spe-
cific direction on training has
been received from CFHQ. Not
that this is required, but in view
of recent statements appearing
in the press, it would be nice to
know just where we are going.
Now for some news of a light,
er vein. Capt. Ted Smith of
100 Bty, Listowel, is to be mar -
tied. -The unit is having a stag•
party for him Friday evening 5th

The Industrial League has.
provided many hours of recrea-
ti0,11 for the 75 players, and
spectators with an excellent
brand of ball. The league is
self supporting, in fact, it rents
the park and lights frotn the
town and provides for umpires
and equipment from the collec-
tions taken at the games.
The next game in the final
series will be on Thursday, Sep-
tember 4, at 7 p. m. It is hop-
ed that all the ball fans in town
will be out to yell for their fa-
vourites.
The long-awaited draw,
sponsored by the Industrial
League, will take place prior
to game time on Thursday. One
of the town officials will make
the draw at the ball park just
before the action. on the .ball
diamond gets underway,for the
second game in the final series.
Tickets on the $100 prize will
be available at the park if you
haven't purchased one yet.
We may not achieve our
ideals, but like the stars, they
