can use all the appliances you want, wherever
you need them ... and you can even have J.
electric heating.

BELGRAVE--Community k.
church service was held in tliea
Belgrave- park under the leadel'
ship of Captain Fearnall, assisfr
ed by the Salvation Army Band
of Wingham. Captain Fearnall
opened the worship with the
hymn, "Blessed Assurance",and
Rev. John G. Roberts led in
prayer.
Another hymn was followed
"by Mrs. Fearnall. reading Scrip-
ture and Sgt. Major Williaan
Henderson of Wingham was in-

Haitian
Motherhood
Once a Haitian woman in
a mountain village has 'given
birth, she doesn't lift a finger
for at least one month, remain-
.ing home with a towel around
her shoulders " to keep 'the milk
warm".,_ placing socks on her.
ordinarily bare feet, and watch-
ing placidly while someone else
does the cooking, cleaning and
water -fetching.
The American director of
New -Mother Care at the Bap-
tist Mission Hospital, Mrs. Wal-
lace Turnbull, says such ap-
parent extremism makes sense.
If I had: it to do all over again
with my own children', " she
says, "I'd do exactly the same.
By concentrating so completely
on the new baby,, by giving
him this . massive dose of love
right at the beginning, Haitian
mothers seem to get their chil-
dren started right on a very hard
life. For the most part, they
'grow up happy and.well-adjust-
ed."
Throughout her pregnancy,
however, the Haitian woman is
expected to carry her usual full
loadof manual labor.
The strange cases of chil-
dren, both boys and girls, who
suddenly and inexplicably lose
their hair has puzzled doctors
far years. .
Most psychiatrists have dis-
missed the thought that emo-
tional problems cause the hair
shedding because the children
involved have usually shown no
other signs of disturbance. How-
ever, a three -year-long study
at Children's Hospital Medical
Center has convinced two doc-
tors that such hair lots is invar-
iably preceded by an over -
whelming loss in the child's
life.
Frequently, the child has
lost his or her usual position in
the family because of the birth
of a new baby. One baby girl
lost patches of hair when her
parents separated. After "los-
ing" his bottle from sudden
weaning, a two-year-old boy
lost all his hair, his eyebrows
and eyelashes.
Psychiatrist Robert D. Meh-
lan and Dermatologist Robert
D. Griesemer found a two-week
interval between the psychic
loss and the hair loss.
Partial baldness usually re -
pairs itself, although recur -
rences are common. But, say
the doctors, recovery is much
less assured when total baldness
occurs.
Rubber footwear will last
longer without cracking if, when
not in use, it's kept standing
erect by inserting rolls of card-
board. Laundry -shirt cardboards•
are excellent for the purpose.
