Anfautile Poisoning,
On Friday last two young girls -very
young -got hold of some pa,ris-green and
with utter childishness, the elder handed
the other a portion, telling her to eat it ;
that it was good. 'Innocency complied
and shortly after the little girl was suffer-

with the early asssistance of a physician
that the child's life was retained. Names

litany Thanks.
The editor tenders bis thanks to
Mr. 13. Either, of Crediton, for a large
roast of venison. ; As our readers are
aware the deer were recently shot in
Muskoka by Mr. Eilber, who 'annually
visits these wilds, with unusuallygood
luck We 'might say that the venison
was good, so luscious in fact that it did
not last long. May your, shadow never
grow less,. Mr. H., your sportive eye never
become dead, your good luck never cease;
nor yet your thought of the editor ever'
abduce, more especially in connections of

Grip's Conic, Almanac,
This well-known annual, for 1889, is
now in the bookstores. For ten years
Canada's "own and only" Comic Almanac
has delightedher people, and the new
number is decidedly the best of the lot.
The calendar pages are unique and ingen-
ious ; the double page cartoon, "Irrepres-
sible Tug of War," is first-class, while
there are several full-page ,cartoous'of no
less merit, and any number of side -split-
• ting illustrations, The letter -press is
capital reading. Ten cents will secure
the book at any newsdealer's-a modest
tax for so enjoyable a melange, surely.
