Grandma Owens, as she was

bks, rn in. Bluevale, Ontario, No,
vern1$er 27, 1861, the daughter
of Mr, and Mrs. Maguire who
came from Ireland. In 1888 she
married James Owenns and they
1104 at ?race Mines, Ontario,
before moving to Erin. Mani-
toba where they lived for sev-
eral years.. In 1904 they carne
to the 'homestead, at D.0 b u c
where the family stet reside.
Mrs. 'Owens passed away in'
Esterbazy hospital, Friday,Jupe
2T after a short illness.
Mrs. Owens celebrated her
100th. birthday 4n Cankda's Cen-
tennial year, 1967, and was
honored by. being D u b u c's
"Mother of the Year. " As such
she was given floral tributes
each month by a differentllo-
cal organization; She received
a telegram from. Queen Eliza-
bethand scores of other digna-
taxies. One hundred and fifty
friends and relatives were pres-
ent on that happy occasion and
also on her 101st birthday rast
year.. .
Grandma Owens had a keen
sense of humor and her cheery
disposition endeared her to
young and old alike. She took
a great'interest in all -commun-
ity affairs and was a member
of the Dubuc Homemakers Club,
in fact the oldest member of.
the Association of Homemakers
Clubs of Saskatchewan.
Mrs. Owens, herself one of
a family of sixteen, had six -
teen children, eleven of whom
are still living.
Predeceased by her husband
in 1940, sons Thomas in 1933,
Gordon in 1942, George in 1967
and a daughter Florence in1958.
she is survived by sons Theodore
of Welwyn; William, Percy,
Charles, Edward, Delbert and
Newton,all of Dubuc; daugh-
ters Mrs. Pearl Taylor of Regi-
na and Myrtle, Irene and Gert-
rude at home. Ten grandchil-
dren and twelve great-grandchil
dren and one sister, Mrs. Mar^
tha Currie, Hawarden,
also survive.
A NUMBER OF children have been attend-
ing the Vacation Bible School, classes be-
,ing held at the Berean Chapel each after-
noon for a period of two Weeps. In this

Last Wednesday Joe Tiffin,
manager of Whitechurch Jr. C
team, was chosen Sportsman of
the Day by CKNX and received
congratulations on the radio for
his interest and time spent in
sports. Joe organized a White-
church Bantam team as well as
the Jr. C team. In this w a y
the local boys are kept busy.
The community, too, adds -con-
gratulations and thanks to Joe
for what he is doing for the corm-

appointed to his second term at
the Congregation of the Renur-
reotion's head office in Borne.
He will leave Canada in
late August to begin a six-year
term of administrative duties as
secretary-general and assistant
general of the congregation.. He
will be the Canadian represent-
ative on the three-man Council.
His previous aPl?p intment
was from 1,947 to 1953.
Born in For7mosa, Ontario,
in 1902, he attended Sr.
Jerome's high school in Kitch-

ceived his arts; degee from St.

in town collision
A 1968 Plymouth owned by
Donald Cameron, Victoria St. ,
Wingham, and driven by Gord-
on Welwood, Scott 6t.. suffer-
ed $600 damage to the right
front section on July 19. The
car was struck by a 1963 Chev-
rolet owned and driven by Wen-
dell McCallum, R. R. 1, Bel-'
grave.' The crash occurred on
Josephine St. , north of the Han-
na Bridge..
According to Winghampolice,
who investigated, the Cameron
vehicle was travelling south on
Josephine when the .driver no •
ticed a car approaching on the
wrong side of the road. The
McCallum vehicle; proceeding
north, travelled 134 feet on the
boulevard, west stde.of Jose-
phine St„ before returning to the
road and striking, the Cameron
car. .After impact the McCal-
lum car travelled 58 feet across
the street and stopped ori the
sidewalk. The Cameronve-
hicle is reported to have stop-
ped before the impact„
Charges have been laid by,
police.
