Gaunton Sunday. Rev. Oliver
is a member of Parkdale Church
and a graduate of Victoria Un-
iversity, B. C. He graduated in
June from Knox College and re-
ceived scholarships valued at
$1200. He and his wife will be

The community was sadden-
ed on Monday when they learn-
ed Dan Cassidy had suffered a
stroke on Sunday and was taken
by ambulance to Wingham, and
District Hospital.
Jim Currie of Wingham was
admitted to Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital on Thursday. 4
speedy recovery is wished for
him by.the community.
Rev. Ure Stuart of Seaforth
had charge of the services at
the United Church. There will
be no service July 27 and Aug-
ust 3rd.
Mr, and Mrs. Firl Caslick
were Sunday visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Douglas Conley.
Miss Alma Conn was taken
to Toronto International Air-
port, Malton, by Mr.- and Mrs.
.Bill Caslick of Culross and left
for London, England, where she
would be met by her parents, •
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Conn.
They would then fly to Belgium
to attend Geeirge Conn's wed-
ding on July 19. Following the
wedding Alma planned to spend
two. weeks On a tour of Switzer-
land. . •

Chalmers COC provides
program for WMS meeting
WHITECHURCH--Last Wed-
nesday the C.O.C. of Chalmers
Chu.rch put on the program for
the W. M. S. meeting.
Mrs. Bill Rintoul, first vice-
president presided and gave the
call to worship. She welcomed
the C. O. C. and their leaders,
and the W. M.S.
Mrs. Hugh Simpson, C.O.C.
leader, presided along. with
C. 0.C. president Kathy Purdon
who gave the call to worship.
The C. 0. C. hymn was sung
with Darlene Simpson as pianist.
The Scripture was read by
Bobbie Ross and Jean Simpson
led in prayer. The roll call
was answered by 14, the offer-
ing was received by David Ross
and.Donald De -Boer and dedi-
cated by Harold4Stockhill;
-. Donald De Boer gave a reci-
tation, Karen Wilson gave a •
piano solo and a reading was
given.by Debbie Reynolds.

Church services
BELMORE—Morning services
were held in both Belmore
churches on Sunday. In the
United Church, Rev. Wettlauf-
er Spoke on the parable Of the
sower and the seeds. Mrs. Carl
Douglas, Wayne Douglas, La-
vonne Ballagh and Lloyd Fisher
of Manitoba sang a quartet.
In the Presbyterian Church,
Rev. E. R. Hawkes spoke on
the wonderpf the newest flight
into space. The responsive
reacling)was the eighth Psalm,
which was to be quoted by one
of the astronauts when he step-
ped onto the moon. Miss Mar-
lene Inglis sang a solo, with
Evelyn Dickson accompanying
her.
A film, "Bible Stories For
Children", was shown with Dar-
lene Simpson operating the pro-
jector. The subject of the film
was Zacchaeus in the syca -
more tree. From this story it
was learned that Jesus loves
everyone and we must learn to
love others.
Darlene Simpson gave a pi-
ano solo, and Kathy Purdon an
accordion solo. Lori Purdon led
in prayer.
Another film* a parable from
nature about Bushy the Squirrel,
demonstrated that a parable is a
story with truth. Bushy learn-
ed that if you don't do what is
right it will -come back to you.
A selfishi person must learn to

anist. Irene De Boer gave a pi-
ano Solo. The third film was
"Bootsie The Lamb". Little
Judy knew her lost lamb was
out somewhere In the stormy
night. When Mother and Judy
went out and found Bootsie,
Judy was so happy to havefound
• her lamb that she thanked God
in her prayer. ,
The W. M.S. met with Mrs.
Rintoul presiding. Thanks was
received for stamps sent to the
Leprosy Mission. Lunch was
served and a social time enjoy-
ed.

presently of Toronto, were Sat-
urday visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
• Harvey Webb. Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence have spent the past
two years in Scotland. They
plan to leave the latter part of
August for Ghana, Africa.

tending. The living room was
attractively decorated for the
shower, and games were enjoy-
ed. Mrs. Glad Edgar read the

Mrs, Alex Graham, Gorrie,
entertained 28 ladies on Wed-
nesday evening. A bride's scrap
book was the centre of atten-
tion. The hostess was assisted
by Mrs. Bill Nay and Mrs. Al-
• vin Simpson in serving lunch.

ener, was hostess assisted by

Sherwood picnic was held Sun -
day it the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Thornton of Gorrie
with about 40 guests present.
Young and old enjoyed races
andgames under the direction
Of Mrs. Harry Girvin and Helen
Thornton. Among those win-
ning,prizes were, oldest person,
Mrs. Maude Sherwood; kicking
the slipper, ladies, Mrs. Jack
Thornton, men, Chester Finni-
gan. A three-legged race was
won by Donald Thornton, and
David Finnigan. Kenny"Girvin
and Allan Thornton won the
wheel -barrow race.
Gordon Johnttone, president,
conducted the business. Mrs.
Dan McInnes 'was secretary
treasurer. They will hold the
same offices or next year. New-
lylelected were Bob McInnes
and David Finnigan on the sports
committee. •
Lunch was enjoyed by all.
The next reunion will.be•
held at the home of Miss Nlyrtle
Johnstone of Goderich.
