Hammond as housing administrator for the $1 billion Bruce Nuclear Power Centre being -built at Douglas Point, near Kincardine on Lake Huron's east shore. Mr;* Harnmond formerly was town manager and later.mayor of Deep River, . which houses most of the employees of Atom- ic Energy of Canada Limited's Chalk River laboratories as well as the staff for Hydro's Nuclear Power Demonstration Plant at Rolphton. At Douglas Point he will work in close liaison with. muni- cipal and•other bodies concern- ed with housing and services needed for the large number of workers who will build and op- erate the 3.2 .million -kilowatt Bruce, nuclear plant, the AECL heavy water plant and the exist- ing Douglas Point nuclear power plant. In explaining the appoint- ment, a Hydro official said: "Hydro is concerned with the social and economic impact on this region of an influx of work- ers and their dependents which could exceed the combined pop- ulations of the communities nearest the huge installations. " The tremendous expansion at Douglas Point means that millions of dollars in wages will be poured into Bruce and the neighboring counties of Grey and Huron. Mr. Hammond said, "One of the first tasks of course is to meet with various municipal boards, councillors and plan- ners.— We will be dealing on various governmental levels be- cause of the great scope of this project.
