The Brookhaven Nursing
Home at R. R. 1, Wingham, ..,
announces the completion of a
new addition. The Home was
first opened in 1951 in a farm
house adjoining the present
building by John and Jean Mc-
Kay of Wingham. In 1955 the
first major addition was added
including eight bedrooms pro-`
viding 20 beds, two 3 -piece
bathrooms and one 2 -piece
bathroom.
When Mr. and Mrs. Rede-
' kopp purchased the home March
1, 1968, there were six resi-
dents under care. As the num-
ber of patients increased to 19'
it became apparent_ that the
facilities were not adequate
and plans were set out for the

eluding bathrooms. All .rooms.
in the new addition are heated
electrically by radiant heat
from the ceiling. This method
is found to distribute .heat more
evenly and leaves no' heaters
protruding from the walls, thus
minimizing the hazard of a
patient tripping against a heat-
ing unit. The building is pro-
tected by a •complete.electric-
al fire alarm system in the
ceiling which is so sensitive
a lighted matchheld within
sixinches will set off the alarm.
Plans are underway at the
moment io renovate the other
section of the nursing home. M.
Redekopp intends to retile the
bathrooms and remove the par-
titions in some of the rooms to
enlarge them to regulation size
for the number of beds per room.
The adjoining farm house is in-
. tended for removal and - the
plans are to include another
addition where the house now
stands..
Prior to purchasing h:e
Brookhaven Home, Mr. Rede-,
kopp (known "to the patients. as..
"Henry") was a -carpenter. in
Kitchener. Mrs. Redekopp'
(Melitta) worked for several
years at Kitchener's Sunnyside
Home.'
Mr. and Mrs. Redekopp wish.
to express their thanks publicly
to Mr. Fred Snow of the Toren
to Dominion Bank, Dr. Evans,
the medical health officer and
all the peopl e who assisted
them in getting the new addi-
tion started.
