Flower service at United Church
GORRIE--The congregation
of Gorrie United Church was
privileged to participa_e with
the members of the Sunday
School in their annual Church
School anniversary and flower
service Sunday morning. The
church was filled to capacity
sith many coming as early as
10.30 to enjoy the prelude of
music on the organ and piano.
presented by Mrs. G. W. Sach,
and Miss Larke Carson and Miss
Joyce Hamilton.
• The entry to the church \.,,as
made beautiful with baskets of
flowers, and the fragrance of
lilacs enhanced the be au ry
which met the eye of the be-
holder on entering the sanctu-
ary. Shady woodland nooks at
each side of the chancel ac-
cented the central scene with
tall graceful forest ferns a n d
baskets of spring blossoms, li-
lacs, tulips and trilliums.
The theme of this year's
service was "God's Gifts", and
this thought was carried through -
Shower
GORRIE-Miss Barbara Henry,
of Wingham, a June bride-to-
be, was guest of honor at a
miscellaneous shower held in
St. Stephen's Church, Gorrie,
on Saturday evening with over
80 attending.
Misses Dawna and Margaret
Bennett were hostesses.
out the worship service. God's
gift of the beauty of nature was
depicted in a rainbow arching
across the choir loft, and the
theme•was carried across the
rainbow in rose coloured flow-
ers against a white background.
The Sunday School pupils
entered the church in a floral
processional, and as they took
their places, each carrying a
nosegay, they formed a living
flower garden. The call to wor-
ship, was. given by Marilyn Grath.
ger. and appropriate poems
were recited by Barbara Mann,
Ricky Nay, Brian Johnston and
Dale Edgar. Special music by
the junior choir added greatly
to the service, as did the tal-
ented Bell Ringers from Wing -
ham.
Rev. Sach in his "Talk to
Little 'Folks"; with.the help of
several boys from the Sunday
School, made an acrostic using
the word "beautiful", showing
very vividly by signs which the
boys held, that beauty is creat-
ed by various qualities such as
being earnest, faithful, industr-
"thus. useful, etc. Also, how
God's greatest gift to man was
the gift of Hislove in that he
gave His only Begotten Son that
man might have eternal life.
Appreciation of the church
School teachers and officers
was very fittingly. expressed to
all who had worked so faithful-
lyand contributed to the com-
plete.success of the service.

al decorations.
