Field trip. to
Buriington
• BY PAUL GARDNER 12,-C
-Last Wednesday the woo d
special and the grade •j2 draft-
ing
raft-ing students went by bus to
Burlington where they toured'
Halliday Homes. and Nicholsons.
These. are Iwo companies which
are involved in the home build-
ing industry.
The first plant toured was
Halliday Homes which makes
prefabricated homes and cot-
tages. ;The boyswere split up.
into groups and each group was
given a guide who explained
every aspect of the industry.
All the major components of
the hordes are assembled and
shipped but from the one plant.
It was a remarkable experience
watching the construction of
their house parts, complete
with doors, _windows and even
siding, come off the assembly
line.
After. lunch the students were
taken to Nicholsons which is in-
volved in making accessories

14 ready for use, The carpet
is .down, the drapes -are hung
and thanks to some of the stu-
dents, the ,morn is painted.
All the furniture is in •except
for a couch, a .snatching chair
for homes, such as windows,
pre -hung doors, stairs and cup-
boards, Once again the boys
were split into groups and given
a guided tour by guides w ho
were willing to describe every
operation and answer questions.
This tour also proved interest-
ing and helped the students to
understand some of the aspects
of their •courses that apply to -
modern homes..
The day was a complete
success and enjoyed by all and
. special thanks should go to Mr.
Beard-, and Mr.. Hornic who
made this trip possible.
Our congratulations to all 1969 Graduates and
our best • wishes for .success and happiness in .

and two swivel chairs.. There
are five card tables --3 round
and 2 square with comfortable
stacking chairs for those who
play cards. We have, now,
the couch, .matching chair and
two swivel chairs. There -are
about thirty stacking chairs al"
together. Some coffee tables,
in black iron, are in the room
also.
The shop classes have com-
pleted the shelves and the bill-
board on the end walls. A hi-
fi has been placed In the room
for a little more relaxation.
A House Committee has been
set up as a "go-between" the
administration, janitors and
students.
The general comment is that
the lounge is "neat", --even
better than the staff room! ! The
total cost of the lounge, exclud-
ing odds and ends which are not
quite finished, is about $3200.
A clock is one thing needed,
and there has been a suggestion
that the Grade 13 Grads donate
one while the Grade 12 Grads
donate a picture, or something
suitable.
Now that it is finished --to the
surprise of many including my-
self --I hope everyone will find
it a pleasant alternative to the
monotony of school work.
In conclusion, I would like
to thank everyone involved who
helped 'make this project a suc-
cess.

intriguing.
Don't be one of those to hear

On Tuesday afternoon, the .
student body was honored by
having the Teeswater Junior
Farmers present their produc-
tion
roduc tion "Lovely Miracle", byPhilip
Johnson. After winning com-
petitions in the local area, the
members entered their play in
the provincial contest. TI ey
were successful enough to *rake
. the finals in Guelph; however,
they did not place in that com-
petition.
The'play was directed by
Mrs. Smith. The stage mana-
ger was Janet Whitehead, and
the cast, consisted of Carol Mil-
ler, the daughter; Susan Mc-
Kague, the mother; Janet Dick-
ison, the neighbour; and Ken
Strauss, the stranger.
The production, a . fantasy,
is staged 1000 years ago in a
• small English cottage. It is
the day before the daughter is .
to marry the man of her 4reams
and she is filed with the bliss
of future plans. . Carol Miller
plays a very convincing 'role.
However, her miraculous
plans are somewhat shattered
with the.arrival of their nosy
neighbor, played. by J e t
Whitehead.. She, who has a
rather unfortunate marriage, is
successful in disallusioning
Carol's dreams: When the neigh-
bour and the mother, played by
Susan McKague, leave the
room, Carol resigns herself to
tears as she ponders about what
lids in store for her. However,
tier tears are soon dried with the
surprising arrival of a somewhat
flippant young man played by
Ken Strauss. He ' is soon to ' re-
store the girl's fears, by rebuild-
ing her previously shattered
dreams.
The play ends in an air of
mystery as we try to decide just
who this young man really is.
The girl has the feeling that she
has met him before and has
known him all her life. When
he departs he states that he wilt
Susanne McDonald and Anne Davidson
see her very soon..
Some of the audience be-
lieved
the girl had been dream-
ing for a few minutes and the
young man waser future hus-
band. I rather favour one of
the opinions that I heird, that
the young man was the son she
would have some day.
No matter how you interpret
the ending, there is no doubt
about it, the play was an ex-
cellent feature of amateur act-
ing and were proud to have
these young talents in our school.
