its Thankoffering in St. Paul's
• Church on Thursday. Theladies
were joined by members of
the Altar Guild. Due to the
• rector's illness the service was
conducted by Mrs. H. W. Ham-
ilton. Afterwards the 25 mem-
bers present _went to the parish
room where the president, Mrs.
, D. Parnell, presided over the
business meeting.

The family of Mr. and Mrs.
Ernie Merkley treated their par-
ents'to dinner at The Four Aces•
Restaurant in Clifford last Sat-
urday evening, to celebrate.

which was April lst.
When they renirned• home
they found neighbours and rela-
tives gathered at the house for
a surprise party. Euchre was'
played and lunch served. They
received many gifts including a
,silver tea service, lamps, cups

Mrs. Merkley was the form-
er Reta Swan. They were mar-
ried in Belmore and have -two
children, Frances of Ridgetown
and Mrs. Doug (Lucille) Camp-
bell of 'Waterloo.
, Mr. and Mrs. Ed E. Walker
R. R. 3, Wingharn, celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
at their home on Saturday with
a family dinner at Danny's Res-
taurant,
Mrs. Walker is the former
Florence Benbow of London,
England and Mr. Walker is a
son of the late F. W. Walker,
former magistrate for B ru ce
County.
Mr. and Mrs. Walker were
married at White Hart Lane,
London, England, in the Prim-
itive Methodist Church on•Ap-
ril 7, 1919 while Mr. Walker
was serving in the armed forces
overseas immediately after the
first Great War. He had enlist-
ed December 15, 1915 at Tara
in the 160th Bruce Battalion and
served in France with the sec-
ond Canadian Pioneer Battalion
and the 6th Canadian F ield
Engineers.
The family consists of four
sons, George of Ottawa; Elmer,
Wingham; Roy, Kitchener and
Allen of Owen Sound. There
are 12 grandchildren, seven
grandsons and five granddaugh-
ters.
Churches unite for Good Friday
• WROXETER--The congrega-
tions of Gorrie and Wroxeter
United churches united for their
annual Good Friday service.
Rev. George Sach led the serv-
ice and was assisted by Rev. J.
W. Hird of Gorrie, who read the
liturgy.
The choir sang the anthem,
"The Cross Was His Own" by M.
W. B. Conron
B&PW speaker.
• The Business & Professional
Women's Club met at the
Queens Hotel for the regular
dinner meeting. Mrs. Robert
Ahara was corivener, assisted
by Miss •Yvonne McPherson and
Mrs. Emerson Shera.
• President Mrs. John Crew -
son conducted the business and
welcerned the guests, Mr. and
Mrs. W. B. Conron. Mrs. Ahara
introduced the speaker, Mr.
Conron, who conducts an in-
surance business in Wingham
and is secretary of the Huron ,
County Insurance Association.
Mr. Conron outlined the his-
tory of insurance from its earl-
iest beginnings as a system of
sharing losses practised among
the sea -faring Phoenicians about
3000 B. C. , until the present
day system of losses covered by
a company for a fee..Hedealt
with the various types of insur-
ance now available, including
general insurance for homeown-
ers, automobile insurance and
life insurance.
Mrs. Shera thanked him for
his infOrinative address. Ques-
tions were answered from the
audience.
• Members were reminded of
the Provincial Conference to ,be
held in London April 25 to 27.

"He Tenderly Looked afMe" by
F. Dawdy. This number con-
cerning Jesus and Peter was ap-
propriate for the minister's med-
itation which was, "I Know Not
the Man".
• Sach said that as one
reads Mark's gospel there .are
many things to indicate that the.
account of Peter's denial of
Christ came from his own lips.
Peter told his story, not sparing
himself.. He revealed that after
such-adeiastating cP,Ualnetb.g;.•.,
had been forgiven and called to
serve as an apostle.
• Peter, in this lamentable af-
fair, was a thousand times more
courageous than we might have t

been. For instance, in thegard-
en Peter drew the sword to de-
fend Jesus. He could have been
arrested in the palace and in
the courtyard. When he saw
the Lord looking at him, not '
with condemnation but w i th
love, Peter's heart was broken.
Peter 's.denial was momen-

said Mr. Sach. But if we deny
Jesim we may hear him deny us
at the judgment seat.

the junior choir burst forth in

worked on their covers as well,
then had a general review on
the previous meetings and on
carving meat. The girls prac-
tised their parts in the skit. The
next meeting will be Monday,
April 14.
The Mary Hastings Club met
on April Ist with' Mrs. Aitche-
son in the chair. The 24 mem-
bers -Present answered roll call
with an Easter wish. Minutei
of last meeting were read and
the treasurer's report given.
A donation to Easter seals
was made. Several thank you
cards were read. Thanks was
expressed to all who helped to
make the dessert euchre a suc-
cess. ° There were 30 tables in *

ed by the Fordwich U. C. W.
The drama was introduced by
Mrs. Jack Wilson. Mrs. Harold
Doig was narrator for the drama
and Scripture passages wereread
by Mis. Glenn Johnston. The
choir, composed of U. C. W.
members, interspersed the.
There were 14 tables in play
at the CWL euchre Tuesday
evening. High lady, 'Mrs: Wil-
liam Taylor; high man, Fred
Eggett; low lady, Mrs. Elsie
Gardner; low man, Alf Lock -
ridge. The door prize was won
by Mrs. Wilfred Dietrich.
The conveners were Mrs.
Rick Wellwood and Mn. Michael
Willie.

The Mary Hastings Club met
on April Ist with' Mrs. Aitche-
son in the chair. The 24 mem-
bers -Present answered roll call
with an Easter wish. Minutei
of last meeting were read and
the treasurer's report given.
A donation to Easter seals
was made. Several thank you
cards were read. Thanks was
expressed to all who helped to
make the dessert euchre a suc-
cess. ° There were 30 tables in *
play. High ladies were Mrs.
Edwin Elston; Mrs: H. Purdon;

The worship service was con-
ducted by Mrs. Jack Wilson and
Mrs. Ben Gibson on the Easter
theme. The sacred Easter dra-
ma, "He Is Risen", was present-
ed by the Fordwich U. C. W.
The drama was introduced by
Mrs. Jack Wilson. Mrs. Harold
Doig was narrator for the drama
and Scripture passages wereread
by Mis. Glenn Johnston. The
choir, composed of U. C. W.
members, interspersed the.
There were 14 tables in play
at the CWL euchre Tuesday
evening. High lady, 'Mrs: Wil-
liam Taylor; high man, Fred
Eggett; low lady, Mrs. Elsie
Gardner; low man, Alf Lock -
ridge. The door prize was won
by Mrs. Wilfred Dietrich.
The conveners were Mrs.
Rick Wellwood and Mn. Michael
Willie.
