Show Biz
Did you make your list of the
top 20 television shows? I
promised to tell, you how right
or wrong you are, so here goes.
These ratings are for the t w o
weeks January 649.. but they
are average for the season, real-
ly. They are based on the Niel -
sex reports and 14 of the top 20
are CBC shows, mainly because
more CBC stations than C TV
stations compete in the ratings
competition. You were sleep-
ing if you missed the No. l show
--Saturday's NHL Hockey, of
course, which is always No. 1
during the winter season. Al-
most 1 million livingrooms
are tuned into a hockey rink on
Saturday evenings. No. 2 show
was a CTV production, Rowan
and Martin's Laugh -In, and
"Bonanza" was in No. 3.
From there on, it reads like
this: 4. The Ed Sullivan Show;
5. Red Skelton Show; 6. Wed-
nesday Night Hockey on CTV;
7. Green -Acres; 8. To m m y
Hunter Show; 9. Beverly Hill-
billies; 10. Carol Burnett Show;
11. Don Messer's Jubilee; 12.
Pig. 'N' Whistle (CTV); 13. Mis-
sion Impossible; 14. Front Page
Challenge; 15. Get Smart; 16.
Ironside (CTV); 17. Fa mily
Affair; 18. Name of theGame;
19. The Avengers (CTV); 20.
Telescope.
ff you got 15 out of the 20,
you have a good knowledge of
what the average Canadianliket
to watch on television!

• When I told you about Ric
Idellwood's accomplishments as
a player on the CBC series.'Ac-
tioneers, you probably wonder-
ed what the series wai all about.
Last Friday on "The Weaker (?)
Sex", Lorraine Thomson -inter-
viewed Ted" Follows who will
star on the new series, playing
the role of an Action Line'
columnist in a Toronto newspiv-

per. The series is being film
ed 'on location' at the Toronto
Telegram, and will deal with
some real-life experiences sim-
ilar to those which an 'AL' col-
.
unmist meets. They have al-
ready filmed a number of shows,
and although no definite date or
title was given, we should know
all the answers by next Septem-
ber—also the date when Ric will
appear in his cameo role. It
sounds like it might be an ex-
cellent series. •

*We have often seen Canadian
writer Bernard Slade 's name on
the closing credits of "Bewitch-
ed", and he writes some fine
material.. Last Friday it was a
pleasure to see Mrs. Slade,
otherwise known as, Jill Foster,
performing an acting roleon the
show, playing the part of Dar-
ren Stevens' secretary. J i 11
played many starring roles on
Canadian television but the
writing field just wasn't large
enough for Bernie, so off they
went to Hollywood, where he is
kept busy with various televi-
sion series. . It's nice to know
the talented Jill hasn't retired,
though.
Speaking of "Bewitched", it
won't be quite the same after .
• this season. Dick York is. end-
ing his association with theshow
at the end of the season, and
will be replaced by Dick Sar-
gent in the role of Darren. Not
meaning to belittle, Sargent's
talent, it will be hard to accept
another in the role. Though it
has been Elizabeth Montgomery
that made the series, York is a
fine comedy star who has con-
tributed much. Their replace-
ment for *neighbour G1 a d ys
Cravitz who died last year, cer-!
tainly did nothing to' improve
theShow; let's hope they have
some better judgment here. '

held in Ottawa
Mrs. H. Wild attended a
'Regional Ceadership Training
Clinic on "The Development
of Physical Education and Rec-
reation Programs for the Retard-
ed", in Ottawa, March 19 to 21.
Delegates were invited front
Ontario and Quebec.
.Dr. J. H. Widdop, McGill
University, Dr. Patricia Austin
of Edmonton, Thomas Riley,
chairman of the -Reefeation
Committee of the Canadian
Association for Retarded Chil-
dren and recreation director of.
Etohicoke, David W. Parker,
B. P. E. M. A. assistant super-
intendent Central Region, Youth
and Recreation Branch Ontario
Department of Education were
the panel for the clinie. They
have travelled across Canada
holding these training clinics.
Dr. Austin's paper entitled,
"To Move Is To Learn", lists
the results of many studies
made.
Thomas Riley said "A mu-
nicipal recreation department ,
if properly structured, should
provide a balanced program of
recreation activity for every-
one in the community. We
have an obligation to develop
suitable community recreation
programs for the chronically
ill and handicapped. "
Many recommendations
came from discussions. There
,should be: more communication
between different groups. Each
delegate should be responsible
for using the knowledge gained
at these clinics.
Dr. Austin also instructed .
two groups of (-:-1 ildren in a
demonstration of exercises.

,,,On Wednesday of winter va -
canon week four Astros and lead-
er
motored to Toronto to visit
the Royal Ontario Museum. We
arrived there at about 11:30 a.m.
and once inside split up to see
what we wanted to see. The
boys seemed most impressed
with ta.displays showing the
latest developments in space •
science. There was also a dis-
4kagswer4
play of live, very large, moni-
tor lizards and iguanas.
After a thorough tour of this
place ide met at the lobby and
returned to the car for lunch.
Bob McDougall desperately wa,nt-
ed to buy a soft drink and was
about to enter a tavern to get
one when we called hirci back.
City traffic was murder that
day but we managed to find our
way to the immense Yorkdale
Shopping Centre where the boys
spent an hour. We then piled
intatthe car for the trip home,
saw Malton Airport through the
haze, and arrived in Wingham
about '7:00 p. m.
