Nativity play
heralds birth
of Christ child
The word angel come $ from
the Greek word angelos which
means messenger, Thus it was
appropriate that the Messenger
group of the United Church
heralded the birth of Jesus as
they presented, as Nativity play
In the church at the 11;00 a.m.
worship hour last Sunday. °
Mary and Joseph, playedlly
Kay Wehrneyer and Kenneth
Fenwick, took their journey •
to Bethlehem down the aisle
to a 'manger scene at the front
of the church. The shepherds
were Mark Passmore, Douglas
Taylor, Peter Fenwick and Bart-
on Irwin. A shortage of wise
men necessitated the use of
three charming girls, JillHay-
den, Susan Wehmeyer and Janet
Wood, Angels on high (the
pulpit platform) were played by
Elizabeth Wehrneyer, Karlean
Nevery, Debbie FoxtOn, Diane
Orien, Eileen Willis and Angela
Lockridge. Narrating the fa-
miliar story were Lori Kopas,
Joanne Wood, Donald Gibson
and Pam Gerrie. This active
group of 6, 7 and 8 -year-olds
is capably supervised by Mrs.
Elwood Irwin and Mrs. Stan
Orien.
Another highlight of the
morning services this monthhas'
been the inclusion of the junior
choir. They sang "O, Little
Town of Bethlehem" and the
senior choir was at its best pre-
senting the anthem, "Shepherds
Loud their Praises Singing".

words of welcome and sang,
"Away in a Manger."'
Darlene Simpson gave a pi-
ano solo. "Winter Frolic" was
given by the juniors and inter-
mediates which consisted of
several Chtistmas numberse
"Gifts for Christmas" was
given .by Barry Elliott, David
Ross, Jan Purdon and Jean Simp.,
son. Joanne Laidlaw andtlfene'
DeBoer sang "Silver Bells" and
"white Christmas". Kathy Put-,
don gave an accordion solo.
The congregation sang two
carols. The primary class, Da-
vid Elliott, Dont1d De'Boer,
Nancy England, Cathy England,
Karen Purdon and David Ross
proved, "It's Christmas,"

A pantomime, "Away in a
Manger", was given by shep-
herds, angels and ladies dressed
in Eastern attire while the carol
was sung.

was held Tuesday afternoon al
the home of Mrs. John Hilde-
brand with a fair attendance.

Torn Armstrong had: charge of
the program 'and Christmas was

inson read Scripture, Mrs.
Armstrong gave the medita-
tion and Mrs. Robinson led in
prayer. After singing "0 Come
All Ye Faithful", Janice Robin-

prayer.
Mrs. Armstrong read the
Christrnas message. "Christians.
Awake" was sung and Mrs.
Hildebrand took charge of the
business.
Mrs. Sault Chamney read
the'rninutes and gave the fi-
nancial report. A thank you
note was yead.• Mrs. Morley
Johnston gave her report on
what supplies there had been
and where they were sent. A
motion was made and carried
to advance her $15. 00 for furth-
er supplies. A motion was also

Messengers meet
at United Church
BELGRAVE- -The Messengers
held their Christmas meeting,
on December 10, in the United
Church basement. The meeting
opened with the motto and
hymn, "Away in a -Manger". '
Seven members were pres-
ent. Collection was rerlieived
by Andrea Coultes, while the
other children sang "Hear the
Pennies Dropping,"
Mrs. Tom Cameron read two
stories, "The Little Match Girl"
and "Annie and Willie's Prayer':
Recreation winn the form of
making Christmas Bells. ,
Mrs., James Lamont instruct-
ed the children in the making
of the bells. The meetipg con-
cluded with the hymn, "Silent
Night" and the Lord's prayer.

Wendy England gave a recita-
tionand Debby Reynolds recited

acts.
Choruses, "I Heard the .Bells"
and "Angels from the Realms of
Glory" wCre sung by the schol-
ars. Lori Purdon gave the doss-
ing recitation.
It was announced that on
Christmas Sunday, Decernber
22, gifts of canned fruit and
vegetables would. be accepted '‘
at the church to be taken to the
London Mission and used to fill
hampers for Christmas.
The Sunday School superin-
tendent, Walter Elliott, thank-
ed all the pupils and teachers
- for their loyalty in attending at
Belniorp

discussed at a meeting of the ,
Official Board of the Belnicire-
McIntosh-Mildrnay United
Church charge, held in the
Belmore Church on Monday
evening of last week. Rev.
Keith Wettlaufer was in charge.
The annual meetings were also
planned with McIntdsh meeting
to be held Tuesday, January
21st, in the form of a pot- luck
dinner at 12:30followed by the
meeting. Belmore's annual
rneeting will be held on Thurs-
day evening, January 23rd, at
8:30 p. m. Members are asked
to keep these dates in mind.
We are very sorry to report
that Mrs. Herb Busby Is again
hospitalized in Wingham, and
nor as well as her friends would
like to see. We hope that her
condition soon improves.
We offer. our congratulations
to Mr. and Mrs. James Rae of
our area who last week became
parents of a daughter, Chona,
born Thursday, December 12th
in Bruce County Hospital, Walk-
erton.
