Show BIZ
All sorts of delightful things
are happening on various tele-
vision series these days! Last
Friday evening, on "Get Smart"
„Agents 86 and 99 finally be-
came Mr. and Mrs. in one d
the wildest TV weddings ever
seen on television. It was
bound to happen; ' for years the
two have worked together as
spies fighting KAOS. And of
course, nothing these two have .
done has been normal, so it
came as no surprise that their
wedding wasn't!, The groom
almost didn't make it; the best
man fell, asleep before the cere-
mony even started; the guests
were treated to a nice. fight be-
fore the main event; and the
bride -when she finally did walk
down the aisle, had to step
over bodies! A d to 'add to the
fun,. the groom had to spend
his wedding hight hanging on a •
hook!
From Hollywood, comes be-
hind -the -scene news on the
filming of the half honr'show,
which actually took days of re-
hearsal and more than 101 hours
before the. cameras. It took •
two hours to film the fight
which lasted about three min-
utes; and twoand a half hours
to filch the .actual wedding
ceremony. Five -hours' were
involved for the shooting of
scenes with star Don Adams
and his .best man, played by
guest star William Schallert
(used to play the 'father on the
Patty Duke series); and it took
the bride, Barbara Feldon, one
hour tIb walk down the aisle
correctly. So much more work
than we realize goes into a
half-hour show like this. Anoth-
er point of interest-- another
guest star Was Dorothy Adams
who played the cute blonde
bridesmaids she happens to be
Don's -real-life wife!

Fallowing on the heels of
Smart's wedding carne the birth
.of Betty Jo's baby, a girl, on
"Petticoat Junction" Monday
evening. .Her mother, Kate
Bradley had to be present for
the last dramatic moments of
the show, and though they -did
well to camouflage the fact
that Bea Benedaret was not
really there (a stand-in took
her place,' always standing with
her back to the camera, and
Bea's voice was recorded), it
as quite obvious that there
as something missing from the
how; This was filmed at the
time Bea entered hospital (the
show says she 'went away'),
but she never left the hospital
and passed away in October.,
The following shows, I imagine,.
will write her out of the script,
by sending her on 'a permanent
vacation, marrying her off, . or . .
something similar.
0--0--0 x,
Although I ean'i;begin to
keep up with all -the new Wye '
arrivals, it is about this time;;
also, that on "My Three Sons",
Katie adds triplets to the cast.
That, too, may have already
happened. And as I told you
'earlier, if you are still inter-
ested in what the "Mothers -Ing. •
Law" are doing, Debbie Walley
is about to .have twins and add
still more to the population ex-
plosion!

We don't often get to see a,
'roasting' by the New York
Friars' Club, but last Monday
evening, we saw Johny Carson
taking it on the chin from his
buddies. Take Ed Sullivan and
Don Rickles off the stage, and
you might have had a boring
show. Funny as Don fs, though
(he was left till the last of these
great perfoirners, which is a
real honour), his own series
is dying a slow death and may
have to be axed at the end, of
the year. It just isn't getting
enough viewers to warrant keep-
ing it, which really amazes
me. Another show which def-
initely is being kicked off at
the end of December (and this
doesn't amaze me) is Phyllis
Dilier's hour-long series. She•
doesn't have what it takes to
keep a series!
In one sentence--Brigette
Bardot is more beautiful anis
more talented than any maga-
zine articles make her out to
be, and is perfectly capable of
hosting a show of her own.
