At . present, I .have one more year to serve on the Road Committee of Huron County Council. The County Council has also hired Consultants and appoint-. ed 'a Committee to do a "Needs Study". That is a ♦a study of all roads, in the Towns, Villages and. Town- ships in the County of Huron. I have been appointed to the Committee, as one of a committee of three, and I j am the only one. from the north of the County and the only one from an urban municipality. This pro- gram takes two years. We now have one year com- pleted, leaving one year to finish the study. Our total budget for the roads .in Huron County for -1968 was $1,930,000. The subsidy received from the Department of Highways was $1,240,000. The Town of Wingham will enjoy a rebate of approxirrte- ly $14,000. I was one of the ree es On Or County Council who supported the incr4ase in rebates to Towns, Villages and -Townships from 25% to 45%. During the past year in the Town of Wingham, s4ie have paved one block of Centre Street; two blocks of Albert Street and one block of Bristol Terrace. We have completely reconstructed, placed new storm sewers and paved two blocks on the "B" Line and completely reconstructed, placed new storm sewers and paved one block on Alice a Street, plus our regular maintenance. A December if I would like to have been able to do more work on • other streets. However, our. budget is limited and we can only complete so much in any one year. At 'present I. am working on a plan with the De- partment of Highways' to have the old No. 86 Highway rebuilt that is Diagonal Road and Victoria Street to Lower Wingham. This plan would mean the De- partment of Highways would pay 90% ' of the total cost of "reconstruction, thus r . • h sent ng a great saving to the taxpayers of W ingha We also have approxi- mately 60 trees for removal 4 his inter. I personally assure the taxpayers of the . Town of Wingham that through my personal contact with the er'gineers from the Department of Highways the town has received all subsidies possible on the streets program. The MORE GRANTS and SUBSIDIES we receive from the Department of Highways, the GREATER the SAVINGS tb the TAXPAYERS of Wingham. The Town of Wingham, its progress and pros- perity have always been among my most urgent inter- ests. ,fit has been a sincere pleasure to serve our com- munity and to do something practical about spending public money where it brings us the best value. JOE KERR. •1. 1 will certainly appreciate your vote on December 2'-- and the opportunity to serve you for another term. *, FOR FREE RIDES TO THE ELECTION POLLS , DIAL 357-3530
