very interesting. Mrs. Keith

Safety is theme
at WI meeting
BLUEVALE-- The Bluevale
Women's Institute met at the
home of Mrs. Carl Johnston on ,
Wednesday afternoon, with Mrs.
JanJohnston presiding. The
.thence of the meeting was
” Safety" . and the roll call was,
"Name your blood type".
The business was concerned
with future meetings, the. tour
of CKNX in June and a bus, trip
in August, 'the route not° yet:`de+

Mrs. Bernard Thomas, safety-
convener.

safety. in the home. on the
farm and on the highway. Care-
lessness is very often the cause
of accidents. Good housekeep-
ing in the home prevents acci-
dents. A habit of safety can be
developed. It is w i'se to w atc h
rugs, handrails and lighting.
One quarter of all fatal acci-
dents are caused by fire.
Mrs. Thomas conducted a
quiz about safety on the high-
way,
Mrs. Charles Campbell
having the highest score.
Mrs. Tarry Elliott reported
'the Guelph conference which;
560,delegates from all parts of
Ontario. attended. She gave a
brief account of the programs
and the remarks of the various
speakers. including Padre Young
who adds enthusiasm and humor
to any subject.

FORDWICH -The family of
Mr; • and Mrs. Sheldon Mann of
'the Fordwich district have in
recent weeks captured the ad-
miration of the people in the
cornmunityby the display -of
musical talent in supplying the
music for dances.
. The group is composed of'
father, mother and sons, Lorne,
'Ronald and Jack and daughter
Mrs, James (Marilyn) Connell.
An entire family .possessing
such musical talent is rare ih-
deed. The community sincere-
ly hopes this family will con-
tinue to supply entertainment
with their musical talent for a
long time.
Grain Corn Club
The first meeting of the
Blyth 4-H Grain Corn Club took
place in the Blyth Memorial
Hall on April • 29.
• The election. of officers re-.
sulted as follows: President, Ron
Howatt; vice-president, Don
Walker; secretary, Doug Walk-
er; press reporter. Bill Fear.
The leaders gave instruction on
liow to take a soil sample and
gave each .member the mater-
ials to take their own samples.
• The next meeting will take
the form of a bus trip to Lon-
don to tour a fertilizer plant.

May meeting
of Beallnore WI
BEI.MORE--The May meet-
ing of the Belmore Women's
Institute was held in the hall
on Wednesday evening of last
week. The theme of the meet-
ing was "llibtorical Research
and Current Events" and the
convener was Mks. Eldon Ren -
rick. She was also in chargee
of the motto, "Hospitality is •
more than entertaining."
Roll call was "something our
Grandmothers used to make";
answers included soap, quilts;
knitted' lace, and other items.
Mrs. Leonard Metcalfe was in
charge of current events, and
gave a report of the Delmore
Maple Syrup Festival, held
April 15th.
.Mrs. David Eadie was in
charge of the topic' and gave
ate interesting report on "The '
Life and Death of Sir Winston
Churchill".

worsip service was taken by
Mrs. Pittendreigh on the theme
"Home and Mother" with Mrs.
Sain Johnston reading passages.

The program was presented
by Mrs: Wray Cooper, Mrs.
Glenn Johnston and Mrs. Pearl
Patterson. It included readings
On Home Life, The Kitchen,
A Recipe for Happiness, Our
Daily Bread and Vitamins in
Our Spiritual Diet.
Two solos, "How ° Much Be
Cared for Me" and " My Jesus I
Love Thee" were sung by Miss
Minnie McElwain:
• Mrs. Wray Cooper, unit
leader, presided for the business
period. Roll call was answered
by a poem on mothers and a
donation of tea towels for the
church kitchen.

Mr. Elmer Zinn and Mr.
Harry Metcalfe attended the
funeral of Mrs. Garner Clyne -
held in Harriston on Monday of
last week. The Clyne family
formerly lived on the Stewart
farm, and attended Inglis
school.
Mary Dickson, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dickson, of
the village; is home after a
tonsillectomy in Wingham and
Distirct Hospital early last
week.

Switzerland spent _the week-
end with his brother, Har
llelfenstein and family Ort the
2nd of Culross.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Mundell
and Beth attended tlic wedding
of Mr. John Henderson on Sat-
urday. Mr. Henderson is a
son of Rcv. William Henderson
of Woodstock, and a nephew of
Mrs. Mundell.
Mother's Day services were
held in,both Belmore churches
on Sunday morning. The min-
isters of both churches, Rev. E.
Ilawkt'S and Rev. R. Grant
were in charge and special
music was provided by the
choirs.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zinn ,
called on Mrs. George Macke
at Clifford on Sunday evening.
