Heaven Is Heaven?.......
I was -dead, and I was happy.
Finally, I could sleep without
interruption.
They could have frozen me,
•for future awakening.
But that wasn't the way I want-
ed it.
My only request was to be left
alone, for a permanent nap.
I never was a believer ih the
"great by-and-by",
So for the first time inmy.life,
(Or should I.•say "death"?)
o-
I was about to catch-up on the
• sleep I had missed •
During my' mortal existence.
I -adjusted my pillow. and tried
to turn over,
But my lirnbs were stiff.
There was'the sound of rustling
above me. Was there no
peace, •
Even in your own grave?
I felt a breeze, and opened my
eyes.
The lid, above me, was open,
And six feet down in• the pitch-
black sod
Stood a man, young in appear- •
ance
And dressed in a tailored suit.
He glanced at his open book,
and then at me.
"Excuse me for dropping in like
• this," said the stranger,
"But would you be John Doe?
Good.
You , are requested to present
yourself at Check -point "C",
(Formerly known as the Pearly '
Gates,)
For the usual induction proceed-
ings:
So, if you would please follow
me?" - ,
But... but... what.. , who...?"
I stammered.
As the circulation returned to
my cramped limbs.
I scrambled out of the coffin to
a waiting elevator.
He explained.
