With less than two minutes
in the game and theteams tied,
3-3, Jack MacPherson's winning •
goal cleared the Wingham
bench in Hanover on Thursday
night asthe jubilant players
rushed onto the ice to congratu-
late him. The goal came on a
two -than breakaway at 18:28
and put the game on Ice for
MXing•ham. _Hanover fought des-
parately'to regain the tie, pull
ing its goalie at the end, but
Wingham controlled .the play in
the last few minutes.
Mowbray, Templeman and
Kennedy _ were the other Wing -
ham goal scorers. While goal-
keeper Bill Skinn played a
good game, he was.not as calm
as he usually appears. -
Hanover took the lead on a
weak shot from right in front
which may have fooled Skinn

were a better club than their
Hanover rivals by downing them
5-3 in the deciding game of the
playoff series on Monday night: -
Both games played•earlier
had been close and the final
one was no different as the play,
and the score, seesawed back
and forth. Three goals were
scored in 45 seconds during the
last minute as both teams. put
out :their best efforts.
Captain Norm MacLennan'
scored the winner for Wingham,
as Hanover made the fatal mis-
take of leaving him uncovered
in front, •Other Wingham scorers
were Jack McPherson, Bruce
Corrigan, Doug Mahood and
Don Hastings..
Don Hastings' goal came at
15:30 with Templernan getting
reedit for the assist. Before the
period ended Hubbard from
Fleischauer and Lorenz clicked
to beat Skinn.. Hanover had the
edge in play during the first ten
minutes of the period but after
the halfway point Wingham
gained control.
There was no scoring in the
second as both teams tightened
up. As a result play deterior-
ated and took place mainly in
the centre ice zone.
Wingham opened with a goal
at 2:20 of the third, Corrigan
picking the corner from Mc-
Pherson and Kerr. Hanover were
'Unable to tome back until 17:15
when Wingham goaltender lfill
Skinn thought he saw Hanover
called on a delayed penalty.
As Bill raced for the bench so
an extra attacker could be used,
Hanover picked up the puck and
fired it into the empty net,
Hubbard from Fleischauer and
Lorenz.
This could have been the
turning point of the game if
Wingham had let down but they
carie storming backend at
17:15 McPherson hit fro'tn Kerr
and Dubeau. At the 19:00
mark Norm MacLennan put the
game on ice witha goal from
Mahood and Wingham led 4-2n.
Not to be counted out, Hanover
stormed backand slid one un-
der Skinn, Ellis scoring from
Martin.and Van Dyke at 19:20.
Hanover then pulled the
goalkeeper and put the pressure
on in the Wingham zone form e
half a minute before Mahood
picked up the puck and fired it
down the ice intothe empty
net. At the end Of the game,
Wingham fans swarmed onto
the ice to congratulate the.
team.

win semi-finals
°g BELMORE- -In last week's
"hockey activity, one of our
winning teams, the Tykes,
charged ahead to win the semi-
finals, a best -of -three which
they ,played with Gorrie. Early
in the week, in a game played
• Gorrie, they defeated their
orients 4-3 in.an exciting
ga a that went 19 minutes into
overtime. The scorers were
Brian Fischer and David Kieffer
with two each. Brian. getting
the much -acclaimed -final goal.
On Thursday night they defeat-
ed Gorrie 2-1, both goals being
scoped by David Kieffer. They
now advance to the finals,
where they .will play Belgrave
for the Johann Insurance Trophy.
This will also be a best -of -
three series, and needless. to
say. • we're counting on 'the

Midget team went down 9-5 at
the ha.nds of Gorrie on Monday
evening. Rick McPherson and
Tony Verbeek each -got two
foals and Dwight Metcalfe takes
the credit for the other. On
Friday evening' in Gbrrie, they
were again defeated 5-2. Jim .
McAdam and Rick McPherson
take the honors for the goals.
Curing News
A fun night°of curling was
held at the Wingham curling
rink on Saturday with a •full
house for•two 6 -'end games.
The winning rink was• skipped
by Omar Haselgrove, with Marg
Elliott,. vice; Jake Jutzi second,
and Nan McKibbon, lead, and
steaks were given as prizes. •
Runners-up were Al Hafermehl,
skip, June Hafermehl, vice,
)`im Ward, second, and Ann
Rosenhagen lead, with cheese
given as prizes.
Other prizes awarded during
the night were, for most grou-
chy player, Lorne Gardner,' a
soother; for curler not finding
