Sr boys need
competition
in practuces
BY GEORGE VALLANQE
The Wingha T senior boys*
basketball team needs pradtice.
Practice, is my opinion, isthe
only waynthat .we. will ever win
a garnethis year. Perhaps, if,
we practised putting the ball
through the *little orange 'ring, a
little more, -we might score a
few" mote points. It's not
cause of our rebounding pr our
play -making that Stratford Cen-
-tral beat us; we were ahead of
them in both of these depart ,
meats.. My excuse :this time is
that they scored When they shot
and we did not.
• In our practices the only
people we scrimmage '•against
are the j i mors. We need to"
play against a tears- who will °
arouse a spirit of competition
in US and a desire to win. Per-
haps the teachers would con-
sent to an exhibition game?
We •also''need and want the
support of the student body, so
come out and cheer for the
basketball teams. 'We need it,

Despite the snow that caused
'very hazardous driving: the sen-,
ior girls journeyed to Stratford
Central to play their first game
of the season last Thursday.
Under the capables leadership of
Mrs. Underwood the girls, 'in
some instances literally fought
.to an 18 12 victory.
Stratford opened the scoring
with three baskets in the first
quarter. Jill MacPherson scored
on a bre akaw.ay to -end the .fast
first quarter with a score of 6 -
2.- for Stratford. By the end . of
the hag Stratfordstill led, but
by 9 -P4 after a, very close se- •
c,ond quarter. '
The third •quarter was much
more open and. W ingharn pulled .
with -in one point of the host '
• team with the quarter ending.
12 11. yr the fourth quarter
the oranges from the half-time
break were taking effect and 7 '
Winnham points .were unanswer-,
ed •to make"the final `score 18.

Jill MacPherson was 'the lea&

points, I hope the first game
