Brian Makins, Toronto, Y `. s home for the holidays, and stayed with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Makins, at their Main -.Street home. It was back to work on Monday for Brian, but he will be back in town for New Year's. Mr. . Gary Brandon, Halifax, was at home over the yuletide season for a visit with his Lampoonery by, Bud Sturgeon The big snow storm on Christmas Eve this year sort of ruptured plans around the Hollow, but the big day came and passed nonetheless. Santa came and brought Blondie and everything was copesetic. We sang carols., opened presents and ate turkey dinners like pigs at a trough. That's the way I like it. Old Bailey stopped by for a visit over the holidays and he and I got along just fine until he was empty.On Saturday, I forged through th6 snow to the store and got me another of the Bailey family. He lasted several days until he wore out his welcome and like all soldiers, ended up in t egarbage can on Monday. In the interim, we reli d on Buckeye to tame the fever. I almost forgot about one group that took the time to write nasty letters either to me or to the editor. I haVe saved them all and get a kick out of reading them now and then. Gary, who is a former Bayfield Buckeroo, ; has been sailing the seven seas -with the navy since he was home last early this fall, and has sunned himself in places like Bermuda. Art and Mary Latrner, Weston, visited with her mother,, _NI Ethel Knight, at her Louisa Street home. Mrs. Knight had recently returned home after a two week holiday in Toronto. Tim and Nora West spent Christmas Day in London, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Dowler, and her brother Rob. Ken and Bobbi Hulley, London, were at their Tuyll . Street cottage for the holidays. Mr.. and Mrs. W. Clarke, Ann Street, visited with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. Stock, Stratford from Tuesday to Thursday. Miss Janis Clarke, Staynor, joined them on Christmas Day. Winner of the Christ- mas turkey draw at Pat Graham's General Store was Mrs. Vera Gregg of Main Street in Bayfield. Lorne and Barb Merner,. London, were in Bayfield for the holiday, visiting friends and relatives while staying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mert Merner. A 'Clarke family gathering was held at Steve and Maura Clarke's home in Goderich, with 30 at- tending: Reports from the harbour indicate that there is at least 6 -inches of ice in the river now. The fishing tugs tried unsuccessfully to break out of the Bayfield har- bour one day last week. Mrs. Lillian Penhale of the Clan Gregor Apar- tments, spent Christmas and Boxing Day at the homes of her daughter, Mrs: Howard McCullough and granddaughter Mrs. _.lF'zed..,Ball,..,ll nf CYodexich---_ , Township. Sunday she spent the day at the home of her son, Tom Penhale. Miss Bonnie Makins, London, and Dennis and Brenda (Makins) Brooke and Jana, Goderich, spent Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Makins. Guests with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Heard for Christmas and the Holiday season were Mr. and Mrs. Don Turner of Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Don Haw, Cathy and Bradley, visited over Christmas with Marilyn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Riddell, and other relatives in Hopeville. Mrs. John . Graham, Dutton, was the guest of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Graham. Winner of the draw for the Gingerbread House at the Nip 'n',Tuck Variety Store was Cindy Cluf of Bayfield. Scorers in the 5-5 tie Kith the Centralia Marauders a week ago included, Kim McKinnon with three and singles to Kris Bedard and Pat Bedard for Zurich. Allstar defenceman Mike Clarke, who was expected to return to action, early in January, after recovering from a broken thumb, has again been fitted with a new cast which will delay his 1Tnitedsenjoy 9indlelight service The choir of St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield presented their annual Candlelight Carol Service on Sunday evening, December 21. Molly Cox, church organist and choir director, assisted by Ruth Andrews on the piano, led the 22 voice choir amidst , an overflowing audietice, The candlelight processional to the hymn; '0 Come All Ye Faithful', commenced the service, followed by the call to worship and invocatory prayer by Reverend Alun Thomas. 'Sing We Now of Christmas', with the solo part taken by Ted Dunn The choir then sang three numbers, 'Low How return to the club. The next scheduled game for the Buckeyes is. an away game in Goderich on Monday, January 5, against the Bedford Flyers, and the same two teams go- at it on Friday, January 9, in Zurich. A Rose', with solo parts by Jean Milne and John Siertsema, 'Puer Nobis', (a Christmas lullaby), and the 'Echo Carol'. Reverend Thomas read Bible Readings, Isaiah 9:6-7 and 40:1-5. The men's double quartet sang, 'We Three Kings'. Another congregational hymn., 'Hark The Herald Angels .Sing', was sung and followedby three more selections from the choir, 'Mary's Boy Child', with solo part by John Siertsema, 'The Holy Star' and 'Christmas Roundely'* The offering and organ meditation followed and then the choir sang, `Do You Hear', 'Christmas', 'What's It All About?' and `Christmas Is A Time For Loving', with the solo part by 'red Dunn,., Prayers were offered by Reverend Thomas, and the hymn,- 'Joy To The World', was, sung by the audience. The finale, '0 Holy Night', by the choir and '' the candlelight recessional hymn, ' A social time followed in the basement of ..the church, catered by the ladies of theUCW. Popular trip Quite a number of Bayfield " residents en- joyed the bus trip to Simcoe on December 18, to see the display of Christmas lights, The bus they travelled on was the 352nd bus which had made the tour since December 1.
