Members of the Varna and Goshen communities. joined with: the Nguyen family at the township hall on Friday evening for a potluck supper, carol singing and crokinole party. This. enjoyable evening was planned by the refugee committee, Gordon Hill thanked everyone for helping .sowillingly and graciously whenever there --_was, a need for transportation, , etc, , The Nguyen -fam also expressed their -,ap- preciation. Rev. Wilena Brown took the high prize for ladies in the crokinole gaines, and Mildred McAsh was low. Men's high and low went to Bill Taylor and Darryn McAsh. All of us who are in- volved in any way with the Nguyen family are aware that the people on the committee have been kept very busy in arranging for tran- sportation, helping. them shop for their needs, finding employment for them, and all the other time-consuming duties that have made their transition to our country_ easier. I would like to correct an error of last week. Hiep will still be teaching in Kinkora after the holiday, until the other Erench teacher returns from maternity leave. t Church concert An excellent concert was presented by the Sunday School " students at the hall on Sunday afternoon. The superintendents, Doug McAsh and Jim Kirton, shared the chairman's duties. Recitations were given by Jim Hill, Thuy Nguyen, Myra Postill, Krista McAsh, Sandra Coultis, Susan Kirton and Lee Norman. The community should be well . supplied with pianists in future, as piano • solos were played iby Darryn McAsh, Jacqui Taylor, Lori Consitt and Scott Kirton. Lori Consitt, Laura Roy and Steven Taylor _ . flayed_ their pot luck supper ukuleles and sang Little Lamb. The kindergarten lass spelled out the meaning of CHRISTMAS, kind the primary girls were beautiful jointed dolls. Paul Hill, was a'ghost who slept through Hallowe'en and found -himself inthe middle of ft children's Christ*nas party. Teacher Shirley Hill was •themarrator "What Does Santa Do?" was the question posed and .answered by boys of the Junior class, Julie tWebster, Laura Roy, Doug Roy and Robyn Norman per- formed a skit "Santa's Cabin". Jeanette Keys. was the little irl Iookin for God so she could give him some fresh uffins. Goshen church was filled on Sunday evening for the Christmas "birth- day party". Special music was provided by the Ukuleles Unique. Stanley Senior party Many of the township's senior citizens joined in the hall at Varna on the afternoon of December 10 for socializing and euchre. Santa was on hand to- pr..es.ent.the__. prizes. Euchre prizes were won by Grace McBride and Mrs. Alexander, high and low respectively. Mrs. Belle Reid had the most lone hands. Wat Webster won the high for men, john Ostrom the low, a"nd Frank McClinchey the lone liana prize, Ed bodkin was silting on the lucky chair. Mrs. Eileen Consitt had the most grandchildren, and John Ostrom and Annie Finkbeiner had birthdays the 'closest to Christmas.. Winners of the draw were: Blanche Stephenson; Thelma Utter, Mabel Reid,. Beulah Smith, Flora Dowson, Irene McClin- chey, Nettie McClinche:y, Ken Stewart and Pearl Eyre. The tree burning party has been cancelled for this year because of the uncer ain wea conditions in January, and because many people now use artificial trees. There will be no December meeting of the Recreation Committee. The next meeting will be on January 28 with the --time changed to 1:30 in the afternoon for the wintermonths. A big hank -you to Council and Recreation Committee me bers for. the time and support they have given to so al functions. It has been very successful year. Merry Christmas to all.
