Gordon Yeo piped the gathering to their tables and a delicious pot luck luncheon was served, The tables,were •decorated for Christmas and . Mrs. Mervyn Lobb said grace. Then, over 40 guests enjoyed their bountiful lunch. Mary Stirling and Hilda Envie were in charge of the draws and the eldest person present was Mrs. Fred Middleton., who —red—silk roses. The lucky cup prize was won by Marion Smith and she received a set of covered coat hangers. Bill Batkirl, won a homemade cushion for sitting in the lucky chair. After a lively sing -song of Christmas carols, Blanche Deeves gave a Christmas reading and club president Mrs. Lobb welcomed everyone. Jack Smith -gave a Christmas reading and a poem. Mrs. Jean Perdue was in charge of the sale of tickets on a quilt and she thanked everyone for their interest in selling the tickets at the Goderich Suncoast Mall and the Bayfield Fall Fair. The ticket sale realized a profit of. over $400 (for the club. Robin Thompson made___ --the draw and Mrs. Douglas Ward of Clinton came up the winner. Mr. Everett Mcxlwain chaired the business portion of the meeting and Charolotte Norman gave the secretary's report. Fran: Powell presented his financial statement and Mrs. Deeves, gave the card and flower report. 1 --- It was agreed that Marion Powell and Mrs. Semple will purchase a carpet sweeper, broom and dust pan for use in the township hall. Jack and Marion Smith will be in charge of the next meeting and Ed and Blanche Deeves will assist them. Alice Porter has asked for old photographs of homes, 0.• memories of the past for a historical book that is beng prepared. John Deeves, Jack Stirling and John Semple are to be in charge of setting up (the time and use of the new hall. After the meeting adjourned, a few hands of euchre were played and the ladies cleaned up the hall and the Enterprising Seniors first Christmas party was deemed' ,an overwhelming success. Holmesville UCW The Holmesville UCW held their Christmas Worship Service on December 2 with Betty Stoner and iter group in charge. After the introduction, the members sang some Christmas carols and Alice Porter read a special poem Muriel Grigg, Mrs. Porter and, Mrs. Stoner gave readings, which God.Twp. council has first meeting Accounts totalling $252,403.44 were ordered paid when Goderich Township Council met December 1. Reeve G.H. Stirling, Deputy -reeve J. Reder and Councillors W, Mcllwain and C. Sturdy took the declarations of office. By-law number 21, 1980, a by-law for setting the salaries of the various officials for the year 1981, was given three readings and passed. By-law number 22, 1980,-a by --law to appoint certain persons to various boards and of- fices for 1981, was given two readings only and passed as such. Mr. Dendekker and Mr. Falsetto were present at the meeting to explain certain bills for the new township hall. They also explained the operation of the hall's electrical and heating units. H. and D. Wettlauffer were present to obtain information regarding a proposed commercial operation. No motions were recorded. A tile drain loan requested by Evert Ridder for lots 24 and 25, concession 5 was ap- proved by council for a total expenditure of $12,130. William Douglas requested that the township ploughs keep his road open during the winter. Jean Ginn conducted ' the ,business meeting and lunch was served by Kay Harris, Iona Blake, Jean Perdue and Millie Dempsey, • News and notes children were in charge of the morning service at the Holmesville United Church on Sunday. Gifts were presented and will be taken to missions in London and the money offered for the less fortunate will be given to the Family and Children's Services in Goderich. Re succeeds John Wise, a 16 -yearn PUC member, "who served as chairman for the last six years Bob Irwin will remain on for another terra as secretary. Mayor- Chester Archibald will be the new face on ;the Commission, 'as the town's representative. The other member is 26 -year veteran Hal Hartley. In other business,. the PUC decided to hire Steve Maguire of Clinton aS, the new meter reader and general -utility rnan • at a starting wage of $5,59 an hour.
