lyth concert set
The cBlyth Centre for
the Arts will hold its
annual Community
Christmas Concert in the
Blyth Memorial Hall this
Sunday,, December 14 at 3
p.m.
This year the concert
will feature the 'first
public appearance of the
new Blyth Festival
Singers. Composed of
residents from HurOn and
Perth counties, this
energetic choir of 80
voices was formed in
September under the
auspices of the Blyth
Centre for the Arts. It is
under the professional
direction of Mr. Laurie
Rowbotham of Listowel
who says that he is very
impressed with the
progress of the choir in
three months. Accom-'
"pnist for the • group is
Mrs. JoAnne King of
Brussels. The choir will
be performing a varied
selection �f sacred
Christmas music, in-
cluding the Hallelujah
chorus from Handel's
Messiah.
This year's concert will
include two groups new to
the Blyth stage. The
exeter Public School
junior choir under the
direction of Mrs. Joan
Perrie will be performing
on their own and with the
Blyth Festival Singers. '
Instrumental music for
the program will be
presented by the Hullett
CentralSchool Band.
This group of Grades 6, 7
and 8 students are under
the direction of Mrs.
Susan Supeene.
Those of _you who en-
joyed the productions
that grew out of the
Children's Workshops
this past summer will be
glad to know that the
spirit and enthusiasm of
summer spurred the
formation of a Drama
Club at the Blyth Public
School this fall. A play,
written and produced by
the club will be per-
-formed at the Sunday
afternoon concert.
Concert goers from
previouS years • will be
pleased to know that the
Reverend John IThberts
of Belgrave will again be
doing a Christmas
reading and that George
Cull, also of Belgrave will
again be the M.C. for the
concert. As in other
years, there will be
audience participation in
a carol sing -'along,
directed by Mr.
Row botham.
Everyone is welcome to
stay for hot cider and
cookies in the lower hall
following the concert:
The admission to this
family Christmas concert
is $3 for adults and $1.50

The third building
corIstructed was in 1834
and it served as the
Canada Company Store.
It was a one storey log
building overlooking the
harbour and later
became the "River
Hotel".
Two more log cabins
were soon constructed by
settlers George Morris
and John- Boyle and the
other by W. W. Connor
who would later serve as
the first clerk and then
the first Reeve ot
Bayfield
Contracts had also been
let by^the Baron to build a
dam on the river, and
that was accomplished by
William Gray with the
mills to follow.
That is all for now but
next time we'll present
the final chapter of the
saga and see what
