The awards night
planned for Dec. 15th is
turning into a big affair.
If you remember,
members who qualify for
year pins (i.e. 25, 30 or 35
year pins) are being
presented with them on
this evening, and it has
been decided that a
celebrfation is in order.
As a result, ALL
members of the Legion
are cordially invited to
attend. A light lunch (hip
of beef on a bun) will be
served.
In last week's mixed
dart competition,
Rosemary Armstrong
and John Scott were the
high couple. Having
watched John play a few
times, I would be tempted
to speculate that
Rosemary carried the
game - but I'm sure I'll
hear different from John.
Actually, the quality of
playing by both persons is
excellent enough to

darts has been moved to
Thursday for this " week
(Dec. 4th) and next (Dec.
1 lth). After that I assume
they'll be back in their
regular slot, ` but any
changes will be noted in
this column.
There were 15 tables

and Ken Cooke took top
honours with a score of

for the second week in a
row. Bud Dejj,.:.BIILGrigg___
and George Yeats all tied
for lone hands with five
apiece. There will be no
Euchre on the 23rd and
the 30th as we will break
for Christmas. Play will
resume on January6th.

that the budget will
stimulate some spending,
Riddell said it was
basically taking a band-
aid approach to a suf-
fering economy.
"It is an election
budget and it is offering
goodies for the Carleton
by-election (which the
Conservatives won) and a
general election," . he
said. "It will appeal t6 the
people but we need some
long range planning."
Riddell claimed that
the removal of sales tax
on furniture, appliances,
building materials • and
trucks will not
significantly increase
spending but rather only
changes the timing of
purchase for consumers
contemplating buying
such items. He said it
would appeal to the
consumer but would not
have a great impact on
the economy.
"The government cut
the sales tax from cars in
1977 and while it helped, it
didn't_ boost the
economy," he said.
