Consolation Semi -Final Exeter 7- Goderich 6 Ron Corrriveau scored for the Merchants with 1:41 remaining in the game to give Goderich a 6-5 lead. 24 seconds later Lenny Kolkman tied the game for Exeter and with only half a minute left to play, Rob Standen scored the winner as the Mohawks eliminated the Merchants from further play in the tournament. Race ramblings By Lois Gibbings Clinton horseman Wayne Horner had two winners at Windsor Raceway last week. Zamparo, a two-year- old colt by Best Of All - Cinderella Butler, was first in p,2:04.2 on Wednesday night, while Fleet Fighter, a five- year-old Alley Fighter gelding won in p,2:06.3 on Friday night. Driver Bill Gale was also second with Ken- marou Castlee in a 2:02.3 mile the same night and finished third with Terry Parker on Saturday night for the Horner Stable. Mississkippy, . a four- year-old mare by Skippys Pride C - .Twentieth Century, that took a 2:05.4 pacing record earlier this year at Clinton, was second in a 2:04.1 mile at Windsor on November 26. She is owned by Winston Powell of Seaforth. At Western Fair Raceway in London on November 28, Ross Battin finished third with Amys Miss in the sixth for Rex Duckworth of Goderich and was also third driving Miss Kelly Rose for\ owner -trainer James D. Taylor of Hensall in the,seventh. Randy McLean finished third with CP Goodnuff for Charles P. Haskett of Lambeth in the fifth, while Frank MacDonald was fourth with Centinare, a four- year -ofd mare by Scram - Brenda Herbert, owned by May and Walter Pepper of Clinton in the sixth. At London on Saturday afternoon, Jolly Killean, a five-year-old horse by Sociable - Pitch Freight, had his sixth win of the year with Randy McLean on the bike. He has also had four seconds and five thirds from 31 starts in 1980 for owner -trainer Lionel Arbour of Goderich. Valleycreek Zip, owned by Robert, Donald and Kevin Carter of Blyth was third for driver Ray McLean in the tenth. B.J. Sunday finished third in a 2:05.2 mile at Mohawk Raceway on Monday night. The three- year-old pacing gelding by H.A. Meadowland - Dark Lily is owned by Ben and Jean Feagan of Goderich. Top marksman for Avonton in the game was Andy Graham with two. ,Championship Zurich 7 -Mitchell 3 The Buckeyes trailed Mitchell 2-1 after one period but turned on the jets in the final forty minutes and blew the Red Devils out of the arena. - Kim McKinnon paced the Buckeyes with a hat trick while Richard Schilbe found the range twice. The Buckeyes con- trolled the play for much of the game, limiting the Red Devils to only a few brief flurries of action at which time the defence played superbly. Jurgen Hellman recorded his third tournament victory in goal for Zurich. The Exeter Mohawks who are not known for their sportsmanship at the best of times reached an alltime low as they cheapshotted their w y to the Consolation Cham- pionship. With Exeter `bad -boys' Jim Guenther and Jack Chipchase riding out consecutive penalties late in the game, Brussels failed to capitalize and tie the contest. Dave Jackson and Ken Bergman both scored a pair for the Mohawks in the face of disgrace. Down at the local lanes Molson's Crown Mixed Last week, the Car- dinals had a slight lead in the league standings with 36 points' but the Blue Jays were close behind with 35 and the Penguins weret hird with 31 points. In individual play, Pat Jewitt took the ladies' high single of 301 and the high triple of 668. Marj Moore bowled her way to the high average of 239. For the men, • Ken Johnston had the high 'single of 301 and Don McWhinney held the high triple of 721 and the high single of 244. In this week's action, the Cardinals strengthend their lead by another point, leaving them with 40 and Car- dinals with 38. The Black- birds have .moved up to third place with 36 points and the Penguins are now fourth with 33. The Hawks gained a few points this week and have 28, ahead of the Falcons with 25. The Canaries'are still fighting to get out of their last place position of 20 points. • Marj Moore was the high scorer for the ladies, taking thehigh single with 281, the high triple with 732 and the high average with 239. For the men, Sonny Moore captured the high single of 316 and Ken smen stag winners A Clinton man, and the minor sports system in town were the big win- ners in the annual Clinton Kinsmen stag and draw last Friday night. Mark Bell of town was the big winner, pocketing the $500 grand prize, while minor sports in town will benefit from the $2,500 profit realized. Stag chairman Dave Bosman also reported he was very pleased with ticko')tsales this year. Other winners of $25 were J . hunter, Bryan Bell, Ken Johnston, Ken Ellis, Owen Delve, Ron Graff, Angus Hummel, Chuck Chambers, Bill Counter, Jerry Holmes, anerony Van-Zon. Tuesday Night Ladies The Clinton -Blyth ladies league is all tied up •for first with the Born Losers and the Alley Cats each at the top of the score sheet with 57 points each: The Bouncy Bunch and the Drop Backs continue the trend with a second place tie of 48 each and the Corner Pin Cuties are close behind with 46. leaving the Nitwits in last place with 44. • Joann Wammes held the high single of 257 and Nellie Burkholder had the* high single of 633 and the high average of 194. Those bowling games over a score of 225 in- cluded Linda Brak with 252, Julia Van Baaren with 248, Nellie Burkholder with 231 and Lia Hoggarth with 227. Clinton Mixed League Spike +4 and the Twilighters are battling for a first place standing with 46 points each and the Fabulous Five are close behind with 44 points. 4, Head Pin Specialists and Baird- zee's Boys are also tied with 32 points each and Wayne's Girls and Steve's 'Wonders are tied with 29 points apiece. With 22 points, the Grease Balls break the tie positions. Jill Jervis had the ladies' high single of 280 and Mary Cote took the high triple of 595 and the high average of 191. . In the men's individual scoring, the high single, went to Bob Falconer with 288 and he also took the high average with 206. Murray Bolger had the high triple score with 679. Tuesday Afternoon Ladles Rose's Roasted • Nuts are in a cozy first place lead of four points with 67, but Castle's Chestnuts and Ramona's Pistachios are jostling for second place with 63 points each. Bircham's Beechnuts have 60 points and Ruby's Cashews and Beula h's Butternuts are also tied with 58 points apiece. Edgar's Almonds are close behind with 57 points and Bonnie's Beer Nuts have 54. With a score of 255, Hilda Gerrits. took the high single. Betty Fawcett had the high triple of 603 and the high average went to Nancy Roy with 198.' Tuckersmith Mixed Rose and Angus Hummel were the top bowlers of the league this week, taking the ladies' and men's individual scoring highs. Rose had the .high single of 245, the high triple of 623 and the high average of 187. Angug bowled his way to the high. single of 266, the high triple of 600 and the high average of 200. In the team standings, Broadfoot's Hammers are first with 49 points and Scottie's Screwdrivers are second with 46, leaving Sid's Crowbars in third place with 45 points. Warren's Wrenches keep the league scoring close with 44 points and John's Jacks and Veenstra's Vicegrips are tied in last place with 43 points each. Reilly as a "stupid" and "infantile" act has cost Jay Randall Mitchell $500. Mr— Mitchell, 20, of Listowel, appeared in provincial court in Listowel recently and pleaded guilty to a charge , of obstructing a police' officer. The court was informed that on August 8, while Sgt. Harvey Thompson was confronting two young men who were interfering with detour signs, Mr. Mitchell went over to the police cruiser, rolled up the window and locked the door. The keys were in the'ignition at the time. As a result, the cruiser was . inaccessible for about 20 minutes. Judge Reilly asked Mr. Mitchell to consider what the consequences might have been`l if there had been an emergency and the cruiser had been required immediately.
