(James Fitzgerald photo) Shelley by mcphee A former friend came over to visit the other night. Now C.W. doesn't make regula>y trips down to my Clinton abode, in fact it may be questionable whether she will return again, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about this. , And so she arrived in her usual whirlwind, camera bag in one hand, cat in the other. She dropped in just as I was about to put the steaks on the grill. I admit though, I really can't hold that against her, after all it wa's closing in on eight o'clock, well past the usual dining hour. It's just that I can't deal with the cat she affectionately calls Thirty- Endora-Sue-Wallis-Wooden, Tess to her friends. To Tess' not so close friends, she goes by -a number of other names. I won't speak of them here. Now I'm not one for' slanderous name-calling, but occasionally my cat loving nature is overtaken my this incredible urge to ring that neurotic feline's furry neck. I could deal with Tess' insatiable curiousity when she rampaged my place. , t I understood it when she exer- cised her claws on my wicker plant stand and couldn't resist the pan of buttery neufshroomoon he stove. y sorry her when- she sneezed all over the arm of my nicking chair, but delinquent cats, I have no compassion for. It began innocently enough, little Tessie was getting a bit ram- bunctious. "Perhaps she needs to do a little job," I suggested to her mistress. That seemed to be a reasonable recommendation, and Tessi had no qualms about stepping outside for a few moments. But little did we know. Within a matter of minutes the cat, who C.W. claimed always stayed close to home, was making her mistress out to be a complete liar. Perhaps she just wanted com- plete privacy to do her job so we called her name, Again and again we called for her, no answer came. "`We'll, just go back inside for 10 minutes and Tess will be here in no time," C.W. said. Let me tell you, reverse psychology does not work on cats, at least not on this cat, for in 10 minutes time, in 15 minutes time, in 20 minutes time, Tess . was nowhere to be seen. So we reasoned, if Tess won't come to us,we'll go to her. And putting on our best Great White Hunter impersonations, we followed cat tracks in , the white dusting of snow that lay on the ground. Paw prints went in every direction and then the fear set in, we also saw larger tracks, could Tess have been eaten by a dog? No such luck, about an hour after we tramped around Clinton streets, looking behind every bush and peering into all the dark corners, when all hope seemed lost, Tess was discovered. - - There she was, less -than half a block away having a gay old time playing with a big black cat. And so the visit came to a close', C.W. and Tess left for home, but as their car tailights faded into the distance, a horrifying thought sent shivers through my body, what if that black cat was a male. Bartliffs for eight years. But more than a family pet, Duke was known by hundreds of Clinton children as their friendly, playful canine pal. And Duke was always ready to greet them with his tail wagging, as they went to Mayor from page 1 especially ab ut restrictions on doing what they like on their own property," Mayor Archibald said. C .I TON !elms -R CORD, THURSDAY, DECEM hemicaldump sit proposcdfo BY SHARON PIETZ Huron County planner Clary Davidson told Huron County Council at their final meeting of this term, November 27, that the Ministry of Environment has been sa secretive in their selection of a site for a disposal area, that he was not aware a Huron location was on the list of possible locations. Environment `Minister ' Harry Parrott announced in the legislature Tuesday that an area of prim ; agricultural'land in South Cayuga has been chosen for a disposal and storage area for the bulk of the province's liquid wastes. The minister also said a site in Huron was number two on the list of possible locations. Davidson told county council the ministry has been extremely restrictions on the use of private property. As an extreme example, without any restrictions, one might build a beautiful new home only to have an unfenced junkyard established next door," he explained. To finish his inaugural speech, Mayor Archibald admitted that he would not make any rash promises or predictions about 1981 taxes. "All I can say is that I will do my best to keep them within reasonable limits consistent with maintaining essential services and a pleasant -living environment," he concluded. Davidson commented it. seems difficult that the ministry could have `doneany testing Without some in- formation leaking to the planning department or the warden of the county. The county planner said he is concerned that because of the great opposition to the South Cayuga site on environment grounds that the ministry, may fall back to their number two site which is the Huron location., The South Cayuga site, 114 kilometres (1 mile) in circumference, lies within a 12,800 acre tract south of.
