On Thursday eyening of last week
Charles, a little son of IA's John French,
South Ward, Mitchell, came very near
losing his life. As it was, he met with
very serious injuries, which will lay him
Up for some time. It appears he was
walking along the railway track and when
crossing the Lon bridge which , spans the
river he fell through, alighting on top of
the etone pier at the east side. Piaci he
fallen from this dangerous position, he
would haye been crushed to pieces. He
was noticed by some neighbors'and the
alarm being given, he was quielcly rescued
and taken to his home. Dr. Hurlburt
•was at once summoned, when it was
found that one of his hips was dislocated,
and a deep cut in nis head. besides some
internal injuries. Although the wounds
are serious the lad Will recover.

ed endorsed 'Tender for the StLaw-
reins, Canals," will be received at this ofdce
'until the arrival of the Eastern and Western
mails, onTUBSDAY, the 25th day of Septem-
, bar next, for the construction . of two loo'te
.and the cleepening and enlargement of the
npper entrance of the Galops Canals. A.nd
, for the deepening ,and enlargement of the
sununit level of the Cornwall Canal. The
.con struction of anew lock at each of the
three interior lock stations on the Cornwall
Canal between the Town of Cornwall and
Maple Grove; the deepenin,g and widethug
the channel -way of the Canal ; the construc-
tion of bridges, (3.m.
A map of each of the localities. together
with plans and specifications of the reSpec-
tiye works can be seen ion and after Tuesday,
the lith day of September next, at th,s office
for all the works, and for the respective
works at the followiug mentioned places :
For the works at Galop s, at the Lock -keep-
er's House, Galops. or deepening the sum-
mit level of the Cornwall Calla], at Dickon-
son's Laneieg ; and for the new locks, ,
lock -stations Nos. 18, 19 and 20, at the Town
of Cornwall. Printed forms of tender can be
obtained for the respective works at the
places mentioned.
In the case of firms there must be attached
the actual signatures of the full name, the
nature of the oocupation and residence of
each meml.or of the same, and further, a
bank deposit receipt for the sum of $6,000
,must accompany the tender for the Galons
Canal Works; and a bank depositreeeipt for
tbe sum of $2,000 for each seztion of the
works on the Summit level of the Cornwall
Canal; and for each of the lock sections on
the Cornwall Canal a bank deposi,t receipt
for the sum of $4,000.
, The respective deposit receipts--eheques
will not be accepted-mustbe endorsed over
+othe Minister of Railways and Canals, and
will be forfeited if the party tendering de -
°dime entering into contract for the works
at the rates and ma the terms stated iu 'the
offer submitted. The deposit receipts thus
9ent in will be returned to the respective
parties whose tenders are not accepted.
