Picnics, pionie composed of a number of both young and old people from Exeter and Usborne spent a very pleasant day at the lake, near Grand Bend, on Saturday last. Boating and other sports were indulged in by the jovial party, and all returned borne well pleased with their day's outing., Baseball Notes., The Exeter baseball club visited Lucan on Thursday last, played a very pleasant game, and came home defeated. -On Fri- day the Hensall club visited Exeter, and took the Exeter club by surprise. How- ever, a team was soon mustered together and about four o'clock the match began; being friendly throughout, and resulting in favor of the Exeter club, the score standing 24-18. This is the first time the Hensel' baseball club has been defeated this season. <Quoits. The quoit match between the Market Square and Andrew -t. clubs was played on the grounds of the fernier last Friday evg., instead of Saturday, as announced. Mr. Brick, Anglican missionary in the Peace River district. and who has been. working in England and Can- ada in the interests of the district for the past eighteen months, has left for his field of labor. The express business ot the Grand Trunk Railway west of Toronto has hitherto been divided between the Can- adian andAmerican Express Companies. An arrangement has been completed by which the American Express Company will retire in favor of the American Ex- press Company, who will in consequence idd about one hundred and fifty offices to their list and increase their mileage over one thousand miles.
