Serving as a regular in Commander Mellors, as he then was, took part in the tragic evacuatiepn of Dunkirk, and underwent a rigid course of training when his duties were extended to include liaison with Army commandos. Among many of his hair-raising experiences were the raids on Walcheren and St. Lazaret Wounded at Dieppe he was left on the beach, but nevertheless he did make it to the sea where he was eventually picked up. Once he had recovered from his wound he returned to the fight again, 'sand subsequently took part in many of the exploits which have now become part of the dramatic history of that time. Not .the least harrassing of his - ex- perience was the raid ,on Singapore where he was taken prisoner and spent an horrific period in the famous Changi jail but these episodes represent only a glimpse of his wartime adventures. All will be welcome to share this unique op- portunity of listening to 'a man . who was • on the beach', and his recollections, illustrated by a remarkable series of slides, promise an evening of exceptional interest. .M • Mr. Mellors' new book `Company Store' will be available shortly.
