according to the child's
age. Family and
Children.'s Services
covers all expenses for
clothing, dental work,
medication, schooling,
etc. and each child. gets
an allowance.
In Novembet, Family
and Children's Services
will be starting training
' courses for foster
parents. These courses
will deal with such things
as children's behaviour,
forms of discpline and
how to work with abused
children and their
fam ilies.
Louanne says that
foster homes for
teenagers, children with
special problems and
sibling groups are the
ones most needed.
Family and Children's
Services tries to keep
brothers and sisters
together if possible and
has found that children of
school age and up are
usually the most difficult
to place.
Since October has been
Foster Cate Month in
Ontario, Louanne is
urging all those people in
Huron County interested
in becoming foster
parents, to please contact
Family and Children's
Services. Despite what
some people might think,
there is a very real need
for foster homes in our
area.

suggested that mam-
mography, using low-
dose x-ray, might be the
answer.
Of the 128 volunteers
Bruce CourrVyffIy
five were discovered to
have minor tissue
changes and were
referred to their family
doctors.
"All expressed such
sentiments as gratitude,
enlighte.nment and
overall elation by what
they had experienced
during that one important
day in Toronto,"Marle
Silverthorn, Canadian
Cancer Society 'chairman
in Kincardine explained.
Those discovered to
have the tissue changes
were intially upset and
apprehensive. But after
discussing their situation
with Dr. Allan Bassett,
surgeon, they were most
assured and relieved the
changes had been
discovered early.
Breast cancer can be
cured if detected early,
said Mrs, Silverthorn.
The 3,000 volunteers of
the 9,000 hoped for in the
study, have benefitted in
many ways. They are
now' able to take
responsibility for breast
cancer within themselves
and other female
relatives, by teaching
and practicing breast self
examination on a regular
basis.
