Report
bySusan 1. c ay,
CHSS is in great need of
money, and therefore
must come up with
several fund raising
ideas.
The pens have sold
fairly well but we should
have made ap-
proximately $600 for the
sale of 1,000 pens. To date
approximately $200 has
been collected. The
deadline for the return of
pens and -or money was
almost three weeks ago.
Also, in order to bring
additional money in the

Senior Boys
Volleyball
On October 25 ,the
senior boys volleyball
team attended an in-
vitational in Mitchell and
did extremely well.
Despite a . slow start
with the morning mat-
ches where the Redmen
split with Mitchell, losing
15-4, then rallying to win
16-14 and losing twice to
Elmira 15-0, 15-7. On the"
afternoon the Redmen
took two games from St.
Marys, crushing them 15-
5 and 15-2. A double loss
to Stratford Central (15 - 8
and.,l5-12) . Almost 'proved
disastrous, yet the
seniors managed to keep
playoff hopes alive by
taking a game from
Chatham (15-2) after a
strategic loss of 15-4.
A playoff birth was
clinched when Elmira
defeated Mitchell two
straight, and the Redmen
capitalized on this by
defeating,. Chatham.

Cross County
On October 24 the CHSS
cross countryteam was
well represented in the
WOSSA meet held at the
London Ski Club.
To qualify for WOSSA
the runners had to place
in the top 10 at the Huron -
Perth' meet, held on
October 19.
In the midget girls
division, in a field of 140
girls, Lori Souch placed
6th, which qualifies her to
go on to OFSA, and Lori
Schmidt placed 38th. In
the senior girls division,
out of a field of 85 run-
ners, Karen Souch placed
31st and Peggy Jones
placed 36th.
The only represen-
tative of the boys cross
country team at WOSSA
was Mark Vanderburg,
who placed 23rd in a field
of 180 boys.
Congratulations team,
and Good Luck to Lori
Souch in OFSA!

Believe It Or Not
The tone system was
one year old as of last
Friday.
It was nesday,-._
November 24, 1979 that it
first resounded, shat-
tering our . minds. It's
tone was long and harsh.
It echoed in your mind.
long after it quit. It was
(thank goodness) ad-
justed to a seven -second
ring, ' perfect to howl
along with. Its present
form gives a polite but
noticeable howl.
Happy Birthday to the
tone system! It sure has
come a long way.
Junior Basketball
Team Wins
by Donna Lawson
After starting the
basketball season in a
slump the junior girls.
have rebuilt their con-
fidence by coming` up
with two recent and much
needed victories. Last
Thursday they travelled
to St. Marys where the
team led by Kris
MacDonald, Donna
Horner and Mary -
McMahon inched out the.
tough home team by the
close score of 24-23.
This victory follows up
an easy defeat over a
weak and fumbling
Listowel team on October
9th. With these wins the
team now has a record of
two wins and three losses.
Chronicle
quiz, time
Consider the following
numbers: 7, 9, 7, 8, 7, 7, 7.
What is the next number
in the series? (Answer
next week).
++
Billy's gold chip from
last week's puzzle had a
volume of 0.2 cubic
centimetres. Tommy's
gold—brick -had a volume
of 3,200 cubic centimetres
(multiplying length,
width and height to obtain
volume) . If Billy's chip
.weighed 30g, then a chip
of 1 cublic centimetre
would weigh 150g (1 cubic
cm is 5 times the volume
of 9.2 cubic cm, therefore
the • weight is 5 times
greater also.)
A brick of 3,200 cubic
cm would weigh 3200 x 150
g equalling 480
kilograms. This is
somewhat difficult for a'
five year old child to
carry.
A typographical error
resulted in last week's
paper causing one of the
dimensions of Billy's gold
chip to be 0.05 cm rather
than 0.5 cm as desired.
The true density of gold s .
really several times less,
than indicated in last
week's quiz.
