CO THURSOA" ', OCTOBER 30 :1980 Norman Alexander of Londesboro, long-time crusader for better erosion and pollution controls,was honoured for his work when he was presented with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture Award at the federation's annual meeting Thursday. (Photo by GIbb) Summerhill Ladies Club The 'Summerhill ladies club met at the home of Ruth Jenkins on Oct. 8 with' 16 members present. Gladys Van Egmond opened the meeting with a poem. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report was -read by Jean Vod- den. The correspondence consisted of a thank -you note from Olive Neal. A $10 donation was given to the Blind and $25 donation to the Children's Aid Society. It was decided to have an Auction Sale at the Nov. meeting and each member to bring an article for this. The annual pot luck supper will be held in Summerhill hall ttn November 7th at 7 p.m. - Phyllis Tyndall and Ruth Jenkins are going to take the course for Crewel Embroidery and teach it to the rest of the club. All members of the Summerhill club are invited. to attend the reception for Glenna Eltis at the White Carnation on Oct. 25 at 9 p.m. The program consisted of Ali Westerhout telling .of her :Mediterranean Cruise' trip' to showing some pictures. Sandra Westerhout gave a' "Thanksgiving Reading" and a guessing contest, which was won by Ruth Jenkins. Edith Wright had a guessing contest won by Lorna Ellis. The next meeting is set for November 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Joanne Salver- da's home. Those on lunch and program are, Margaret Wright, Ida Wright and Amy Gerrits. 14, hurch a 1 Baptism held• Margaret Whyte and Greg Andrews welcomed the congregation to the Londesboro United. Church, on Sunday morning and the ushers were Susan "Jamieson, Cheryl 'Lyon, Diana Shobbrook and Suzanne Tamblyn• Rev. Sett welcomed everyone and announced that while he leads ser, vices in Auburn, Rick Hawley will be the guest speaker for Londesboro. Sacrament of baptism was administered to Shannon Rose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Scott, accompanied by elder Jim Jamieson and Crystal Joy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ian. Hulley, eeer panted----be Margaret Whyte. The junior teachers were Bev Riley and Sally Pollard and the junior and senior choirs joined for a special song. Aimwell Unit The October meeting of the UCW Aimwell Unit was held on October 20 at the home of Marion Hunking. 4 tivities keep Leader FlorenceCartwright opened. the meeting with, a reading and the roll call, a Thanksgiving verse, was answered by 13 members and two visitors, Shirley Norman and Mr. Howlett. The minutes of the September meeting were read by June Fothergill. It was moved by Joan Whyte and .Shirley Scott to make hospital favors ' at the November meeting and Helen Lee will look after the supplies for the favors. The' Presbyterial report was read and the November meeting will be held at Brenda Rad - ford's home. The roll call will ask members to name their favorite lder, Apostle -and t_..re —'4l served by Mary Peel and Pearl Mason. It was decided to sell the quilt that the mem- bers , are making and collection and birthday pennies were received. Exlparers third expedition was held on October 23 and the girls were welcomed by Mrs. Whyte and the emblem was read by Lisa Bosman and Deana Lyon. A successful sale was held on October 25 at Richard Lobb's barn in Clinton for the estate of Harriett Knox. The family of Mr. Lorne Hunking celebrated his birthday on Sunday and those attending included Mr. and -Mrs. Tom Duizer, Laurel, Lisa, Stephen and Shannon, Mr. and Mrs. Art Hunking, Todd and Tara of Exeter, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hunking and Brad of Goderich. Mrs. Bert Shobbrook's family celebrated her 75th birthday on Saturday with a gathering at the home of her daughter Thelma Ellerby. The meeting opened with the pledge -and members answered roll call by telling about the crepes they made at home. The skit fur Achievement Night was decided and the group studied microwave and toaster -broiler ovens. Bitty Pizzas were made in the toaster -broiler over and saucy franks were cooked in the fry pan on the stove. The next meeting of the Merry Munchers will be held in the Londesboro hall at 7:30 pm.
