KnQX United Church, Auburn held its an- niversary service last Sunday with Mr, Rick Hawley as the speaker. Special . music was supplied by, the Wesley- Willis United Church .. Choir of Cambridge. The Choir sang an "Introit and two anthems, "Let Not Your Heart Be *Troubled" and "Amen". Mrs. Bonnie Gowman: of Cambridge sang a solo, "How Lovely are Thy Dwellings". --Maurice -Bean- led in a prayer litany for the anniversary "and Mr, Hawley's sermon was entitled, "Who Plays God?" Mrs. Florence Wightman presided at the organ and Mrs'. Nancy Park at the piano and provided ' music before and during the service. A fellowship hour and lunch followed after the servi rA LIONS CLUB The Auburn and District Lions Club held their meeting last Wednesday in the Auburn Community Hall with dinner served . by members of the United Church Women. This was Ladies' Night and the Lions and their guests from Howick Lions Club, Blyth Lions Club, Ripley Lions Club and Goderich. Lions Club were welcomed by Lion President Steve Carn- pbell. The secretary, Lion Bob Worsell, gave his report which was adopted on motion of, Lion Fred Lawrence and Lion Donald Haines. The treasurer, Lion Doug Chamney, gave the financial statement which wasaccepted on, motion of Lion Marinus Baker.. and Lion Walter Marchl. . J The induction of a new member, Glen Webster, was led by Lion Don Coghlin and included other guest Lions. Glen's sponsor was Lion Marinus Baker. Correspondence was read by Lion president Steve and it was decided to give Blyth Figure Skating Club -a donation__ The guest speaker was Rosella Spero who presented a speech and film on multiple sclerosis. - SILVER TOPS' The Silver . Tops held their first euchre party of the autumn season last Tuesday evening with six tables in play. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. James Glousher, low lady, Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson, high man, Ted Mills, low man; Jack Hallam and novelty, Mrs. Elma McFarlane. 4-H NEWS Pam Losereit, the first vice-president of Auburn 2, -4-H Club, opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. Marjorie- - Siert - sema read the minutes of the previous meeting. The members answered the ,roll z call by each telling the two home activities they had chosen. Discussions took place on - hot snacks, saucy ' franks, crispy chicken wings, bitty pizzas and deep dish pizza. The microwave oven and how it works,. was reviewed and all . members an- swered a quiz on the subject. Toasters and broiler ovens were discussed with regards to types. Efficient use of electric ranges was also discussed. - - - All members took part in the making of saucy franks.and bitty pizzas. HQRTICULTUtE MEETING Mrs. Maisie Bray of Lion's Head, District President of District 8 will be guest speaker at the Auburn Horticultural Society next Monday evening, October 27 at 8 p.m. in the Community Memorial Hall. Plans for this coming meeting were made at an executive meeting held last Wednesday at the home of the president, MrS. Ro s Robinson, , There will be door prizes and the lunch committee Will be Mrs. Frances Clark, Mrs. Donald Haines and Mrs. Stewart Ball. Mr. and• Mrs. Charles Handy of Monteler,'Ohio, visited last Saturday with Mrs. Handy's niece, Mrs. Tom Lawlor and Mr. Lawlor. Miss Isabel Fox of Blyth and Mrs. Lorne McDonald of Seaforth were guests on Thanksgiving Sunday with Miss Laura Philips and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johnston. Mrs. Myrtle Munro visited last week in Toronto with her son, Robert Youngblut, Mrs. Youngblut, Susan, Bruce and Kristen. Mrs. R. Beard • of Mitchell, Mrs J. 1 unn• of Seaforth and Mrs. J. Hodgins of Wingham were recent visitors with Mrs. Tom Jardin. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bennett of Amherstburg visited his aunt, Mrs. Elva Straughan last Thursday and Friday. Using the Chapter's program book, Jan led a discussion dealing with the future of humanity, relating it to such topics as religion, education and medicine. During the business meeting, president Mary Marsh asked each committee to describe its function for the benefit of the guests. The social committee decided not to hold a Hallowe'en party this year, since. the Chapter has been so active this fall. The shopping ex- pedition to Toronto will take place on Saturday, November 8th, but the method of transportation is still under discussion. The ways and means committee distributed tickets for the grocery draw, being held .by the Epsilon Beta Chapter, on November 29th. Gail Hiltz displayed the beautiful quilt which will be giv P l away at this Chapter's draw on March 28th, 1981, again distributing tickets where needed. The service committee recommended giving a subscription of "World" magazine. (for ages 8 and up), to the hospital waiting room. A motion to this effect was carried unanimously. This committee also outlined the possibilities for a scholarship fund to he set up at Clinton high school, from both Chapters of Beta Sigma Phi: The members decided to order several copies of the Beta Sigma Phi "Golden Anniversary Cook Book", with the idea of selling any extra books at the bake sale on November 29th, at the town hall. At the end of the 'meeting, Jan served, a delicious apple crisp. and Jean Jainieson of Toronto visited last weekend with Mrs. Frances Clark, Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Rick Hawley and family on the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Noble Lytle, 'Mrs. Ernest Halliday and Mr. and Mrs. ,Ross.
