MT. CARMEL After
sitting on his motorcycle
for 1,157 hours, Rory,
lustier ,couldn't even
ride it.
The Motorcycle sit -on -
it contest ended Friday,
October 10 just a few
hoursshort of seven
weeks. Rory jumped off
h'isbike and later he
couldn't get it to start.
Rory, 17, of St. Marys,
h d, been completing with
Tom Horrock of..Sarnia to
see who could sit on his
motorcycle longest. The
contest was, sponsored by
Country Corners ir1 Mt.
Carmel and a motorcycle
dealer in Sarnia. The
Winner was to receive the
value of their bike for
lasting the longest in the
contest ----that--- began ---

Through the dealers,
the last two contestants
came to a mutual
agreement . to jump off
their bikes., at the same
time. It was decided that
each would get 60 per
cent of the value of their
Kawasakis. Rory gets
$1,230 while Tom receives
$2,189.
Rory said he was glad '
to accept the offer and get
off the bike. He noted,
"They said it was going to
snow and I wasn't sitting
in snow."
11The first thin ory did
when he left i5 perch
was to have showe , trim
his hair and he d or his
high school graduation in
St. Marys.
And despite all those -
hours with his bike, Rory
still hopes to get . his
machine tuned up and be
riding it soon, before he
has to put it away for the
winter.
The. Guiness World
Book of 1ecords has been
informed about, the sit -on -
it feat and the winners
names will appear in the
next edition.
Dig experience
SEAFORTH - Grade 13
students at Seaforth
District High School have
a rare opportunity for
some 'Hands-on" ar-
chaeological experience
this month, The students
will be , assisting staff
from the Museum of
Indian Archaelogy in
London in digging for
foundation walls and
artifacts at the rear of the
'Van Egmond House.
Paul Carroll, chairman
of the Van Egmond
Foundation said the dig
by the students will cut
the foundations cost
significantly. The
volunteer labor will
reduce costs of the work
by two-thirds
Brucefield
UCW meet
Fourteen members and
one visitor to the
Tuckersm ith Unit of the
Brucefield UCW
discussed .the topic
remembrance at their
October 13 meeting.
Hazel McCartney led in
thg study and- asked
members, "What is your
IDlife?" She stressed that
everyone should be
thankful for life and all of
its benefits, including the
ability to work.
Mrs. Stoll and Mrs.
McCartney led in the
devotions in the absence
of Mrs. Mustard and Mrs.
Ross and Mrs. Ann
Broadfoot provided piano
music for the meeting.
Mrs. Stoll read the
minutes of the meeting
and the roll ca11 was
answered by each
member with a
Thanksgiving verse.
Thank -you cards were
read from Mrs. Helen
Dallas and Norman and
Mildred Walker. Thanks
also went out to the ladies
for the decoration of the
church for Thanksgiving
Sunday.
It was agreed that an
extra collection be taken
to add to the present
allocation for the year at
the next meeting ori
November 10. The
president., - Mrs.
McCartney also thanked
the ladies for their help at
the recent church supper.
After the meeting, the
group held a Putch
auction as their October
project and lunch Via
served.
