WMS hold Thanksgiving meeting The WMS of Carmel Presbytieran Church held their ,Thanksgiving meeting on Monday evening with Mrs. Robert BEAVERS :SCOUTS CUBS NEWS...byMary•Freeman BEAVERS -i' Colony A and B: The colonies held their investiture ceremonies last week and Ross Hallam, the Assistant District Commissioner, was on hand to invest 28 new Beavers and seven leaders into the Scouting movement. 'We are ve,rY pleased to welcome Rose Edward, Brudefield; Elena Morgan, Bayfield; Brad Morgan, Bayfield; Jim Boughen, Clinton, Pat Higgons, Clinton; Jim Ryan, Vanastra and John Horsup, Brucefield into the leadership team. The parents then joined the Beavers in games of Hee Haw relay and Submarine before lunch was ',served. We wish to thank Mr. Hallam for visiting our colony and to the mothers for bringing cookies. A reminder to parents that Saturday, October 18 we are visiting the Zhers store in Goderich. We will be leaving at 9:45 a.m. from the highaschool and returning at ap- proximately 11:30 a.m. Please be sure that Beavers are in full iniform and have turned in their per- mission slips. SCOUTS: New leaders, Dv-e--Renner--and Doug St. Louis went over the badge program, the Scout .Law and Promise and the history of Scouting with the new Scouts while the patrol leaders aftd assistants held a Court of Honour meeting to plan some of the activities for this winter. The remainder of the senior Scouts went out to Huronview to assist at the movie night for seniors. On the 220 of this month the Scouts will be bringing their polishing cloths to the meeting to shine up the apples for Apple Day. Scouts and Cubs will be out on the evening of Friday, October 24 and during the day on Saturday+ 0 25. The Scouts will leave immediately following Apple Day for their first camp of the year, returning late- Sunday afternoon. M. Bell in charge of the devotional. Mrs. E.. Rannie read the scripture and Mrs. Alex McGregor read a passage, Mrs. Robert Bell gave an outstanding message on Thanksgiving and led in prayer. The president Mrs. Harvey Hyde presided for the, business and gave a Thanksgiving poem. Arrangements were completed for the Fall Rally. being held in Carmel Presbyterian • Church on October 8 at 1:30 p.m. An invitation was received from the Senior WMS and Barbara Kirktam Auxiliary in Seaforth fpr their Fall Thank -offering on October 16th. • The visitng committee for October are Mrs. Skea and Mrs. Wm. Bell and the annual bazaar will be held November 1 at 3 p.m, Mrs. Hyde closed the meeting with the benediction. Mrs. Al Hoggarth presided for the meeting of the Ladies' Aid which followed. Several items of business were dealt with and Mrs. R. Taylor reported plans were well underway for the ladies' Sunday, October 26 when Mrs— Kenneth _Knight would be the guest speaker. Also, a ladies choir will provide the music-. Neilands presiding in the absence of the president, Mrs. Beatrice Uyl, who is in hospital. Donations were voted to the CNIB and to r Westminster Hospital, It WAS decided to have the "money doll" again this year. Iva Reid, sports convener, reported on the bowling tour- naments. Flowers were sent to life members for Thanksgiving. Fall rally held The Fall Rally of the District WMS was held in Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall on Wednesday October 8th with a good attendance. The president, Mrs. McAllister of Auburn conducted the meeting and Rev. Kenneth Knight read several passages o Scripture. The 'president of the WMS welcomed the members and guests, Mrs. Malcom Dougall of Rxeter, who attended the Conference for Presbyterian Women in Ottawa in May, gave' very interesting report of the conference. The of - tering Was received by Mrs. Bert Thompson and Mrs. Lloyd Mousseau and the offertory prayer was given by Mrs. Hyde. Mrs. Blanche Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell played a duet. The guest speaker was Miss Lynne Longmuir of Hanover, who is in charge of organizing Church groups. She gave a very impressive and humorous message, Mrs. Psalter' Presbyterial Librarian had a display of literature Rev.
