Sunday ((g, Bence, Jeff, !, and Mr. Gil Latimer, made their yearly pilgrimage to the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, to watch the Detroit Lions squeak out a hard fought- victory over the St. Louis Car- dinals, -in NFL Football play. They all enjoyed this year's trip more than usual, since it is the first time the Lions won while they were present. Keep in mind, "The Pack... is Back!" Mr. and Mrs. Brian Brandon, and family, Owen Sound, were in the village over the weekend. Mary Pounder, Guelph, spent the weekend at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pounder, of Keith Crescent. Greg, and Emily Nielsen, London, weathered the weekend at their Sunset Lane cottage, just north of the village: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pounder, Stratford, spent the weekend at their Dow Street cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cluff and family, ..London, visited the village over the weekend. The fish are biting! The fish are biting! The River Mouse says, he and his pals took 16 speckled trout on Saturday at a local stream. The Stick- man says that he caught a pike down at Joe's Pond and further ventured to say that the river is full of trout. Mr. and Mrs. Art Latimer, Weston, were - weekend guests of Mrs. Ethel Knight, at her Louisa Street home. If you didn't believe what the 'Mouse' and 'Stickman' said about the fish biting, Handy Randy (Park Ranger) says the river is .full of rainbows and they're practically jumping onto shore tothe fishermen's stringers. Milvena (Sturgeon) Erickson, Andrew, Luanne and ,Lydia en- joyed a delightful day Sunday when they motored to Cambridge (Hespeler) to attend a barbecue at the home of the formers cousins, Stuart and Beryl Sturgeon, Kenneth, Julia and Ian. The day was spent in getting acquainted with younger family members and reminiscing with older ones, and concluded with interesting and colourful slides shown by Beryl of her recent trip to England, interspersed with family shots taken a "few" years before. Those attending in- cluded Gerald and Audrey Sturgeon, Nancy, Sue, Lori and'Steve of Preston. Frank Sr. and Jeanne (Sturgeon) Anderson, Science Hill; Frank Jr., and Liz Anderson, Tammy and Jason of Vanastra. The day was most enjoyable Golfer wins Tim West of Bayfield won the 18 hole Clinton Legion Golf Tournament held last Saturday at the Bayview Golf Course south of Bayfield. West recorded a score of 76 while his brother, Gerald Hiltz of Clinton, fired a 77 for second place. Congrat'ufations to both on a fine effort. Garden club and plans were for- mulated for a "Sturgeon" family reunion to be held in Bayfield in the sum- mer of 1981. The Moleman spent a quiet week observing his new acquisitions, a couple of vintage bottles of Boones Farm. Could be that the Milettigh is coming down! plans "shop" Following on their • plans to maintain Mara Street, Bayfield as a wild flower sanctuary, the executive now propose a practical application - of their objectives. Wednesday, September 30th at 1:30 p.m. is the day that has been chosen for a "work bee". Anyone with plants - and or labour - to contribute will be welcomed and it is hoped that there will be a good response to the Club's genuine desire to encourage and promote this particular project. hthawks even series with Lakers After dropping behind 2 games to 1 in their best- of -five series, the Bayfield Knighthawks were facing elimination at the hands of the Bluewater Lakers on Thw s day night, but came up equal to the task. and easily downed the Lakers by a 134 score. With many area fans urging them on, the K. hawks played up to their potential, laying dpwn a barrage of hits, and making use of many Laker fielding errors: With the series tied, the rubber match was set for Monday evening at the Varna diamond. Monday night, everyone Was keen for the game, but the weather wasn't about to co-operate, so the game has been rescheduled .for tonight (Thursday). Bluewater 'Club Championship The annual Bluewater Golf Course 'Club Championship' wound up with Gerry Stirling capturing the top prize. Originally scheduled for a week earlier, in- clement weather on the Saturday forced the tournament to be played on two separate weekends this year. many cancellations after the Saturday rain spelled an unusually low turnout for the 36 hole tourney. Gerry Stirling, Goderich Township, shot roan s \of 32-36-37-37 (par ager ge) for a 1\42 aggr g te, good enouh to w nk the first flight. Men's League results The Bluewater Golf Course 'Men's League' wound up the season on Thursday, September 4 with a banquet and the trophy presentations. The top team this season was Gerry Stirling, Goderich Township and Dr. Frank Newland, Clinton. Low handicappers were: first Gerry Stirling; second, Bruce Bartliff, Clinton and third Ernie Hovey, Bayfield. High handicappers were: first, Fred Jackson,. Clinton; second, Les Hinton, Bayfield and third, Lloyd Westlake, Bayfield. Congratulations to all the competitors. Ladies' slo -itch Action was quiet on the ladies' diamonds this Birthday party held On Monday September 22, Mrs. Dorothy Brun- sdon of Clan Gregor . Apartments, Bayfield, ' celebrated her birthday. But this was a birthday with a difference. Together with about a dozen of the residents, Mrs. Brunsdon welcomed her daughter, Mrs. Charles Holdway, who had travelled 2,000 miles for the occasion - all the way from Dallas, Texas! The beautiful- cake, specially made in Dallas, had survived the 1 ng journey, not a single ne of the delicately i ed flowers being damaged. After joining in a chorus �f "Happy birthday to you." Mrs. Brunsdon's week, the championship being decided a week ago at Varna. However, two special events will wind up 'Post - season' play for the Bayfield: Babes. The Bluewater Ladies Slo Pitch League Ali -Star team, selected from members of the Stanley Stars, Varna Agricos, Bayfield Goodtimes and Blue Shadows, were meeting the 'A' ehampx`bn Babes at the Varna dial and ,on Tiled40 y evening.
