Two elders of the Stratford Cliktreh, Clarence Reida and Art Schreuders with two members of the community, Dorothy Wilson and Rose Hummel are serving as a Spiritual Care Committee, The minister Peter Mantel serves as chairperson on this committee. Among other • matters this committee is con- sidering the matter 'of church membership. Committee members will visit the families presently associated with the church. Sunday school is still held at 9 a.m. before the service which starts at 10 a.m. Since this year is the 200th anniversary of the Sunday School Movement, the Sunday School superintendent Jan Ferguson with her teachers is planning E0ig birthday party on Sunday October 5th as part of the morning service. All children and Parents of the community ancl' area are welcome to this special party. Then beginning Sunday October 12th, the church is planning to have the Sunday School at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11 a.m • During the week, the church is also a busy place. From . Monday through Friday, Conestoga College is using the church facilities teaching English to a class of Vietnamese refugees. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the auditorium and annex is busy with nursery school children and mothers taking their turn in charge -of the program. On Wednesday evenings the Pathfinders find their way to the church. Soon the Come Alive Program Arts and Crafts, will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings again. This is a program for boys and girls. This full program leaves the church available for occasional meetings on Monday and Friday evenings. LastSaturday, the minister Peter Mantel and two representatives from the church Jan Ferguson and Norma Goulding attended the 23rd Annual Christian Reformed Sunday School Convention held at the Woodland Christian High School outside of Breslau. Cubs This is for boys aged 7 years to 10 years. Meetings are on Mondays at 6:30' - 8 p.m. at the Vanastra Recreation Centre. Boys must be 7 years old as of last week in order to join. Our library -general purpose room is starting to take shape, and everyone is waiting patiently for the new books to arrive from the Huron County Library. • Clubs are starting. Mr. Nicholls started practices for our cross-country runners on Monday. So far we have had a good turn out. On Tuesday, • Mrs. Cooper had the first choir practice. We are hoping to have a few new activities this year. If.any 'members of the Vanastra community have skills • that they would like to share with our young • people, perhaps a • club could 'be started with your • help. You can volunteer by simply calling 482-7828. We will be conducting our swimming program again this year. All of our children from grades one through six will be able to take part. The cost for eight 20 minute visits to the pool will be $2. The program will take place each Friday in October as 1.4 well as the first three Fridays in Jun&. 'Details will be sent home to all participating families in the very near future. -We are considering ordering Top Cat T-shirts this fall. If you would like one of these fine quality shirts, please let us know. If there is enough interest we will contact our supplier for current prices. At the Vanastra Public School, we believe that parental understanding of the purpose of the many activities that take place will contribute greatly to the success and happiness of each and every child. We believe that close co-operation between the home and school enhances each child's educational ex- perience. From time to time' there will be op- portunities for you to visit the school -classroom. These scheduled visits should provide parents and teachers with the opportunity fora mutual exchange of information. Interviews will be arranged later on this first term. However, parents are invited to arrange their own interviews at any time that they feel a need exists for such a meeting. Simply call 482-7828. Apologizes to the Lioness • First of all I would like to,, extend my personal apologies to the Lioness Club for incorrectly stating two things in their column last week. First and foremost you cannot ask to join this organization or the Lions organization. The second error was in ,stating one of the teens visiting from Finland not Sweden. There will be a business meeting on Thursday evening at the Vanastra Recreation Centre at 7:30. New programs offered On September 5th, the Township of Tuckersmith officially opened the new 'addition to make the 'facility accessible to everyone, especially those in wheelchairs. The addition consists of a new activity room which can be used for classes,. meetings and neW and larger change rooms, a large exercise room with a brand new 14 station global gym unit. Many new programs are being offered by the centre this year that include karate, recreation for special needs for individuals who are unable to fit into a regular aquatic or fitness program, including mentally handicapped, Senior Citizens, ar- thritics, asthmatic, stroke victims or any other physical disability.
