AND MRS, CARL FARNSWORTH LiveiiiOitawa Wilma Elizabeth Van Aaken and Carl Abraham Farnsworth were united in marriage at St. Bonifice Roman Catholic Church, Zurich, on Friday, August 22, 1980. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Gerald Van . Aaken, Bayfield, and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Mel Farnsworth, Goderich. The Reverend Father Mooney conducted the ceremony and organist was Mar ann Boyle, of St. Augus ine. Soloist was Brenda alachiuck, of Clinton, and her ac- companiment was provided by Cyril Boyle, of St. Augustine, Elena Vaillancourt, of Ottawa, was the bride's maid of honor and bridesmaids were Elizabeth Oude- Remerinck, Toronto, and Mary Ellen Van Aaken, Bayfield. The groom's best man was Donald MacKenzie, Hanover. Ushers were Frank Van Aaken, Peter Farnsworth, Harold Van Aaken, and Joseph Farnsworth. The couple will reside in Ottawa. The August meeting of the Summer 1 Ladies Club was held at the home of Verna, Gibbins with 19 members and two visitors present. The president opened the meeting with the poem. The minutes ot the previous meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report was given. A thank -you note was read from Doreen Carter for helping with the "Flowers of Hope Campaign". Edith Wright reported on the bus trip which she and some other members took to Parry Sound with the Londesboro Womens Institute. The an- niversary money was collected and. the raffle was won by rda Wright. The program consisted Of ::. a reading by- Sue. Vodden and a contest won - by Ruth Jenkins. "Jane Van Spengen gave a reading and Hazel Watkins had " a contest won by Jean Vodden's team. All members are to attend Londesboro Womens Institute meeting on September 10 at 8 p.m. and the October meeting is to be held at Ruth Jenkin's home at 2:30 p.m. on the 8th. On Garden wedding The RR 3, Kippen home of newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Richardson made a pretty setting for their garden wedding. Rev. Wesrey Ball of the Thamesford United Church led the July 26 nuptials when Ruth Miriam Speziale began the bride of Mr. Richardson. The goon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Richardson of Clinton and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kusti Luoma of Sault Ste. Marie, Mrs. Elaine Gould of Exeter attended the bride and the best man was Robert McKenzie of Brucefield. Mrs. Mary Lou Tait played special music and a solo was given by Ken Freebain and a duet by Beth and Dave Prouty with Keith Freebain accompaging on the banjo. Norm Tait provided accompaniment on the bass. The service also. included a special wedding prayer given by Pastor Keith Gonyou of the Exeterr Pentecostal Church, The bridal couple went on a honeymoontrip to Sault Ste. September 13 at 6:30 p.m. on CKNX Channel Eight. 1-Iost Roy Cowieson will be on hand to talk to special guests Mel Proud, Mary Ann Connell and the Reverend Lloyd Brown about the government of the United Church of Canada photo by Harvey McDowell Hartman -McCallum Area deaths William Lindsay Stirling On August 29, 1980, Mr. William Lindsay Stirling, of Goderich, passed away at Alexandra Marine & General Hospital at the age of 69. He was born on October 21, 1910 •in Goderich Township to D.A.(Sandy) and Pearl (Lindsay) Stirling, who were both born also in Goderich Township. He married Myrtle Irene_ Good _on July 1915 and farmed in Goderich Township until moving to Goderich in 1962. He attended school at S.S. No.8, Goderich Township and was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Ralph (Margaret) Jewell of Colborne Township. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Watson, and Miss Florence Stirling, Funeral services were held at McCallum, Funeral Home on Monday, September 1, 1980 with the Reverend G.L. Royal officiating. Interment was in Maitland Cemetery, Goderich. Pallbearers were Robert Harris, Donald Stirling, Jack Farrish, Duncan Murchison, Mel -von Good, Harold Good. Flowerbearers were William Jewell, Bruce Sowerby, Kenneth Farrish, Jack Thom, Benson Good, Keith Good, Austin Fuller, George Stirling, and Bruce McClinchey. Attending the funeral were relatives and friends from Stratford, Guelph, Hamilton, Kit- chener, and Misissauga. GERTRUDE KERNIGHAN Mrs. Gertrude Ker- nighan, of Goderich, died in Huronview nursing home on August 18. She was 83. She was born to John and Mary Alice (Gard- ner) McDonald on July 8, 1897 in Lucknow, Ontario. On September 12, 1923, she exchanged wedding vows with John S. Ker- nighan in Goderich. She and her husband have always lived in Goderich or Colborne Township. Mrs. Kernighan was a member of the Benmiller United Church and of its ' United Church Women. She is survived by her husband and- ch-ildren-;- Mrs. Chester (Isabel) Sturdy, R.R. 2 Goderich; Russel, of R.R. 4 Goderich; Donald, -of R.R. 4 Komoka; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and one sister, Miss Norma McDonald of Toronto. She was predeceased by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Florence Graham; and one grandson, Jim -Ker- nighan. Funeral service was held August 21 at the McCallum Funeral Home with the Reverend John D.M. Wood officiating. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery at Colborne Township. Pallbearers were grandsons Mark Ker- nighan, Scott Kernighan, Lyle Kernighan, Lynn Kernighari, Larry Sturdy, and John Sturdy. The flowerbearers were her granddaughters Trudy Kernighan, Laurie Little, Roxanne Ker- nighan, Pauline Ker- nighan, and, Mary Ellen Sturdy.
