As summer winds to a close, we have been asked
to get our big bad dictionary out and provide some
definitions of little known names, places and things.
(Names:)
"The Stickman:" Also known as a long haired
leaping gnome, with the physique of a `stickman',
he is none other than Bayfield trout fisherman and
broomball star, Andy D. Sturgeon.
"Pat the Hat:" Known for being an avid sports
fan and hockey nut, and often being seen wearing a
`lucky hat', it's Pat Graham from Bayfield.
"The Moleman:" Last seen roaring around
Bayfield in his Dodge Power Wagon and working in
the Sifto Salt Mine at Goderich, it's none other than
the Howard Street Horror,.GilFLatimer.
"Fifty the' Beagle:" Well, he is a beagle hound,
and his name is Fifty and he dwells with the Mole
people.
(Places:)
"The Hollow:" A shortened version of the Sleepy
Hollow of Ichobod Crane), therein dwells ..
Bud and Barb Sturgeon.
"The Mile High Bar:" The Mile Long Bar is in
Disneyworld in Florida, and the Mile High is on
Howard Street in Bayfield. According to the
proprietor, Gil Latimer, it is called that because the
sign hanging thereon says so.'
"The Toadstool and Sandcastle:" These cottages
are both situated on Howard Street, ,Rne, the
'Toadstool, lying just east 'of the other, which is
more to the west. Both are owned by Gary and
Edna Hulley of Paris.
"The House of Mouse:" Situated on Lake Shore
Road, it is the summer dwelling of Ken and Bobbi
Hulley of London. Since finding four piles of bird-
seed underneath a pillow on their"bed, neatly piled
by a mouse, it has been known as the 'House of
Mouse' as the sign thereon states.
(Things:)
`EFifty: " The great Canadian ale that most
prefer.
"Lampoonery:" according to Websters
Encyclopedic Dictionary of the English Language,
`lampoon means a drinking or scurrilous song,
from lamper, to drink or guzzle; 'A personal satire
in writing; a satiric or abusive attack in prose or
verse. - v.t. To write a lampoon; to assail in a
lampoon. - lampoonry, the act of lampooning'.
Being that as it may, I spell it 'ery' so make up your
own meaning if you like. "
"Spann :" A breakfast food often eaten with Spam
as in Spam and Spam or toast and Spam, but You
always have to have Spam.
If you are still confused, do not feel alone, so am I.
Think I'll have Spam and Fifty.
There are two classes
of politicians; those who
sit still and make all the
money; and those who go
about the country and
make all the speeches. -

aptists honor youth
A youth banquet was
held at the Bayfield
Baptist- Church on
Thursday evening in
honour of the young
people who are leaving
our area for further
training, Miss Debbie
Talbot, and Miss Louann
Nicholson, who are en-

studiesat the London
Baptist Seminary in
London, Ontario. Also,

school to complete her
training, and Miss Joy
Shiel is returning to the

with his wife Gerry are
also returning to their
studies at the London

We sincerely thank God
for the dedication of these
young people, who have
surrendered their lives to
Jesus Christ, and are now
preparing to serve Him in
some aspect of Christian
ministry. Miss Teresa
Radley of Clinton was
also present, and is going
to Woodstock to begin
Nurses' training, which
she also plans to use in
her service for. the Lord.
It was a great evening,
with a scrumptious
turkey dinner prepared
by the ladies of the
Church, Following the
meal, an inspirational
time was enjoyed by all of
the young people. Ruth &
Steve Ovens from
Wortley Baptist Church
in- London, challenged all
through their musical
ministry, and Rick
Riordan gave a very
practical message on the
'`Setting of Goals" and
emphasizing that first
and foremost our goal
should be to please the
Lord and to find His will
_for_nurtiAily 1><___iv_es_ Mrs.
Shirley Riordon. (nee
McFadden) also shared
in the musical ministry.
A lbvely gift was
presented to Doug &
Sandra Talbot and family
on the 'occasion of their
leaving Bayfield to take
up residence in London.
Much appreciation was
expressed by the Pastor
for their faithfulness and
labour of love in the
Church, and especially
for their ministry among
the Youth of the church
and the bus ministry.
They will be greatly
missed - but all wish them
God's richest blessing as
they go.
