It's a fact
There was Marconi and
there also was Reginald
Fessenden. Born in East
Bolton, Quebec,
-Fessenden was known as
the 'lather of radio" and
he succeeded in broad-
casting voices through
the air without wires,
even before Marconi.
Fessenden achieved the
first radio telephone
conversation, the first
two-way radio com-
munication and the first
radio broadcast of music,,
and voice.

Saturday they had a
huge 'smoked pork'
barbecue and a dance. As
well, a beauty contest to
pick 'Miss Wildwood'
provided lots of fun, as
judges George Rich,
Bruce Johnston and
Stewart Asher deter-
mined Aggie Sierowski of
London to be the fairest in
the `Woodland'.
The Lwo clay sio-pitcl><
tournament wound to a
close on Sunday with both
of the Bayfield Parks
Men's and Ladies' teams
narrowly defeating their
counterparts from
Rondeau. This tourney
also marked the opening
of the new ball diamond
at Woodland.
Sunday also featured a
pancake breakfast for all
the visitors. Next year's
plans for the annual event
are already in the works
and Rondeau Wildwood
Park (just south of
Chatham) will be hosting
the fun weekend.
This past weekend, the
Wildwood Olympics were
held at the Bayfield Parke
with events like swim-
ming, baseball,
basketballt, volleyball,
lawn darts, euchre and
bridge filling the all day
competition.
Taking home the
honours were the 'Jack
Ber>,ny r Club' (39 and
holding) who had the best
participation as they
edged out the Camp
Adults and the Teens and
Kids.
Aboul 100 persons took
part in the race for the
trophy donated by
Wildwood Park.
The Olympics wound
up with a 'fun Square
Dance' and a mini -golf
tournament.
Next weekend, a flea
market (with everyone
from Bayfield and area
welcome), an inter -camp
baseball tournament and
a turkey roast will close
out the summer schedule
of activities at the park.
