Those attending were Doug Yeo, ° Hazel. McCreath,- 'aake Reder, Walter Mcllwain, Gerry Ginn, Alice Porter, Marilyn Forbes, Bev Orr, and Audrey Middleton. Reports for the sum- mer program were given. Swimming lessons at Vanastra saw a total of 43 participants which proved .to be successful c--board---sub s idiz ing the project for $166.50. Softball with 108. children registered was also successful: The township should feel proud of this well organized prograam managed by very hard working and dedicated coaches and assistants. Gerry Ginn made a motion that a special softball meeting of the softball, executive and coaches be set tentatively for Sept. 10 to analyze the softball program this year and make plans for the future. The parks committee reported that the ball park has made about $100 to. date as the annual barbecue at the lakeside park was very successful with one of the best at- tendances yet. They reported that the five picnic tables had been purchased, delivered to the park and one ofthese stolen on the first night. So the remaining four have been moved to safer keeping until a better security can be arranged. It was pointed outto the committee that garbage containers are required for the softball field. There was a discussion on the need for new and replacement trees for the lakeside park and the athletic field. A motion was made for suggestion to the township council representative, Garnet Wright to order trees at the appropriate times for 1981 and 1982 from the ministry of natural resources , or Maitland Valley Conservation Authority. It was decided to use receipts rather than membership cards in the future: A complete govern- ment information on capital grants for every sport was received and filed for future references. It was learned that the ----softball . progr-a- --had--a-n _ _.. outstanding deficit for softball equipment of $450. To - eas a this debt it was decided to sponsor a raffle on a beef which will be divided into three_ prizes: first prize will be 1/2 beef; second prize a hind and third a front quarter. The draw will -be made at the Christmas dance in December. The parks committee was asked if they would consider making a five year plan. After some careful consideration it was dec irfed to shelve this proposal for a month. Thank-yous were directed to Gerry Ginn and . Jake Reder respectively for being in charge of preparing and entering township floats in the Goderich and Dungannon parades during the summer. Doug Yeo has been in charge of drafting a policy and procedures for the township recreation this year. This will be presented to the township council to consider and evaluate , at the next council meeting. It was suggested that•a copy be sent to each council man and .rec committee person. A motion was made to apply for a government number to allow for sales tax exemption for recreation.. Several committee members volunteered to seek suitable leaders or teachers for the proposed winter programs which will be offered. i.e. snowmobile clubs, curling, ballroom dan- cing, volleyball, hockey, etc. ZY
