Council discussed the issue after -the town building • inspector recently attempted to have some' merchants re sidewalk. However, he came under fire from some council members and merchants and it was indicated that he had taken the action following complaints from other members of council and some citizens who felt pedestrian traffic was being hampered. Although the outdoor sale tables do not con- travene the town's zoning bylaw, council is con- cerned that Exeter is taking on the appearance of'a "bargain basement," in Mayor Derry Boyle's words. Only one councillor supported the sidewalk displays, while others were concerned that the' town would be liable if anyone fell over mer- chandise displayed on,the sidewalk. Mayor Boyle questionned the wisdom of spending $80,000 to $90,000 in beautifying the core area only to turn it into a "bargain basement" and, com- mented that Exeter's Main Street looked like Spadina, , Street in Toronto. Councillor Lossy Fuller agreed and . added that )Alain Street watt taking on the appearance of e continual sidewalk sale. • CLIN''TON NEWS -RECORD ,.• ; 'R$DY, AUGUST Zs,1st+ SAE 5: 411.1r45,7, ....: 4 Dare's Cookie Jar, Lunch Time or Party Pak Cookies 900 g White Swan White, Pink or Yellow Bathroom Tissue droll White Swan White, Yellow, Assorted or Printed Border Assorted Paper Towels Cut From Canada Grade "A" Beef Chuck Blade Bone Out White Swan 200's White, Pink or Yellow Facial Tissue . 69. 1I.Iple Lead Flakes of Ham 11.3 0/. .99 White Swan 60's White or Coloured • Serviettes . 49 White Swan240's White Serviettes 1.49 Save -All 30 m Waxed Paper Save -All 30 m Refill Waxed Paper Alcan 5 m Aluminum Foil Wrap . 99 . 89 .69 (,ranulalyd Extra F me White Sugar 2 kg 2.39 Stokely 14 fl. oz.
