Shultz. The afternoon was spent visiting with relatives. Games and. contests were also en- joyed. The convenors of the sports were Mrs. Wilma Vincent and Mrs, Nor- man Vincent. Winners -of -the -contest relay games were: thimble relay, Greg Letherland's team; marshtnallow re-lay, Greg Letherland's team; clothespin relay, Teresa Raithby's team. The birthday gift contest was Won by Kim Bolger, Greg Letherland, June Bolger and Mrs. Ray Neil. . A prize went to Edgar About people Mrs. Tom Haggitt attended. the curator's meeting for the London area <Women's Institutes held at Grand Bend last week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turner celebrated their. 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 16th among relatives and friends. A dinner was enjoyed by immediate family and close friends at Knox United Church, Auburn. Following the dinner a reception was held at Saltford Valley Hall with .music by Free Spirit. Dancing was enjoyed by relatives, friends and neighbours. During the evening an address of congratulation Was read by Mrs. Donald Sprung of Goderich. She had composed it telling about Bob and Isobel's married life. The annual memorial service of 'Hope Chapel Cemetery will be held on • Mr. Rick Hawley of Knox United Church, Auburn as 'the speaker. Please bring your own lawn chair. Mr. and Mrs. William L. Craig returned last Thursday evening from a motor trip along the Pacific Coast. Master Bryan Gross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gross had surgery last week in St. Joseph's Hospital, London and was able to •eturn home last Saturday. Mrs. Norman McDowell is .a patient in University Hospital, London. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Ross Dobie en- tertained little guests for , her daughter, Shelley's third birthday. The little guests were Jonathan Collins, Ryan Chaxnney, Scott Deveau, Laurel Campbell and her sister Susan. She was assisted by Mrs. George 'Collins. Ethel, Vanastra, Lon- desbord,- -.Blyth and Auburn. OPP will handle village dog problems The Auburn village trustees had their August meeting last week with their chairman, Warner Andrews in charge. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by the clerk, Mrs. Ross Dobie. Mr. Andrews expressed thanks to Trustee Kenneth .Scott for being chairman when Auburn, Michigan friends were here. It was announced that the, dog situation in the village has been placed in the hands of the OPP. A letter was read stating that the West Wawanosh garbage disposal site was closed on Wednesdays. Further renovations to the Town Hall were discussed. ANDREW KIRKCONNELL Funeral service was held at the Tasker Funeral Horne, Blyth, for Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell last Friday. She passed away. suddenly at her. home; August 12th in her 74th year. The former Elizabeth Ellen Daer she was the daughter of the late Samuel Daer and Mary Tuberville. She was born in ullett Township and att nded USS No. 5 Hull tt:.:.. My granddaughter Christine Stadelmann of Blyth and I flew Air Canada to Saskatoon to visit my cousin, Mrs. Laura Hoge and her daughter Mrs. Marilyn Hale§. ' ted>,. She .took us to Edmonton by VIA Rail to see her son Allan Hoge, Mrs. Hoge and six sons. We then went to Calgary and Banff by bus. They moved to Hullett Township until he retired about 20 years ago and moved to Auburn. She was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, the Anglican Church Women and the Auburn Women's Institute. Besides her husband, Andrew_Kirkconnell, she is survived by one son, Harold, Goderich; three daughters, Mrs. Louis (Jean) Blake, Brussels; Mrs. Mary Park, Win- nipeg and Miss - Diane Kirkconnell of Edmon- ton; one brother Bert of Blyth and five grand- children.' A brother John predeceased her a few weeks ago. The Rev. William Craven officiated at the funeral service with burial taking place in Hope Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ken- neth Scott, Major Youngblut, Thomas Haggitt, James Schneider, Gordon Miller and Donald Cartwright.
