ALBERT VAN MAAR Clinton pair wed Clinton Christian Reformed Church was the scene August 8 for the wedding at ;whiph Jo- Anne Dykstra of RR 1 Clinton became the bride of Albert VanMaar, RR 2 Clinton. The Rev. A. VandenBerg officiated for the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of. Mr. and Mrs. Kees Dykstra, RR .1 Clinton. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred VanMaar, RR 2 Clinton. Wedding music was. supplied • by John Coreidanus, RR 2 Clinton at the organ. Soloist was Debbie Postma, Brucefield. For her wedding, the bride wore a gown in polyester silesta chiffon with sunburst pleated skirt and shirred lace trim all around the bottom of the skirt and around the long chapel train. The gown featured a Victoria neckline with V front of bodice and a gathered frill all around the edge of the bodice and the cuffs. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Trudy Kassies of Brucefield and Miss Marianne Haverkamp, Brucefield, friends of the bride, and'- Angela Dykstra of Clinton, sister of the bride. Groomsman was Clarence Dekens, RR 5 Clinton, a friend of the groom. Ushers were Ron Lassies, Brucefield, a friend of the groom; 'Alfred 'Dykstra, Clinton, brother of the bride; and Anton VanMaar, Goderich, brother of the groom. The wedding reception was at the Blyth Com- munity Centre. Following a honeymoon in the United States, the couple are residing at RR 2 Goderich. Showers were given in the bride's honour by Mrs.. Jane Postma for relatives of the bride's mother's side; Mrs. Ingrid Darnsma for friends and neighbours; Mrs. Bert Dykstra and Mrs. Alfred Dykstra for relatives of the bride's father and neighbours; and Mrs. Fred VanMaar for friends and neigh- bours and friends from the Netherlands. At Huronview Residents hear youth choir At the Sunday morning service the choir sang the .anthem "HeIs So Preelous. To Me". Nelson Lear and . MrS. Elsie Henderson sang a duet. called "There Is A River",, accompanied by Mr. Frank Bissett at the organ, We have had rather a busy week at Huronview with the, Burton Upon t Trent Youth Choir from. Staffordshire England entertaining. on . Saturday afternoon. We • have the choir on video and will be able to again enjoy them in the future. On Monday, the kitchen �--st. - s ------a beautiful picnic lunch which we .took to Strat- ford and ate ' down by the water. After lunch, Mabel Jeffery, Mary McAllister, Eunice Lamb, Elsie Henderson, Jean Miller, Gladys Staniake, Margaret McQueen, Levi Carter, Ruby McVittie, Margaret Mitchell and Margaret Murray along with staff members enjoyed a ride on the tour boat. On Tuesday it was another opportunity for Myrtle Jacklin, Lyla Pinner, Elizabeth Black, Julia Stevens, Olive Straughen, Della Nesbitt, Marjorie Boyce, and Helen Fisher . to have a van ride. Smith, Ken Skillen, Sadie Mittell, Mary Cornish, Ferne Births down, divorces up according to Ontario stats Ontario's birthrate, which has experienced only two moderate up- swings since 1961, is still dropping according to statistics released today from the Registrar General's annual report The Registrar General's office is part of the Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Com- mercial Relations and is responsible for collecting statistical data on births, deaths, marriages, still- births, adoptions, divorces and name changes. —Since----1-464---the- 'num ber -S'rnee—i-9 - - 'number of births In Ontario has declined from I57,663 to 120,964 in 1978. The total number of marriages in Ontario has increased steadily since 1962 with a registered peak in 1975 of 72,716 marriages. Since then the annual total has gradually declined to 67,491 marriages in 1R78. In 1979, 21,640 divorces were filed in Ontario, an increase of 900 over the previous year, according to the report. The report also in- dicated that hyphenated or combined surnames were twice as popular for children born in 1979 than they were the previous year. In 1979 the Registrar General's office recorded 282 combined surnames, up from 149 in 1978: In 1979 the public requested, by mail or in person, approximately 500,000 certificates. The Registrar General's, office also completed 24,237 verifi ations for other government departments and authorized agencies. Attending the bride was Miss Barbara Robinson , of Newmarket Ontario, cousin of the bride, while the best pian was Stephen S!urete, friend of the groom, and the ushers were , Jeffrey Grigg brother of .thebride and Robert Willet brother of the groom, , After a honeymoon to Orlando, Florida, the, couple will reside in London Ontario, Huronview Auxiliary ow to trace family trees A meeting of the Huron County Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society was held August 6 at the Ronald Feagan Memorial Grandstand board room. The chairman, Carole Robinson, welcomed all and advised that there were four committees -to be formed which required chairmen: nominations, membership, fund raising and cemetery. Miss Robinson also noted that the petition regar- ding destruction of records had been for- warded to Washington along with the suggestion that records be returned to their country of origin. Under new business, .Mrs. Janet Hullah of Goderich volunteered to act as membership chairman. Mrs. Lizzie Feagan, Mrs. B. Kinney, Bill Clutton and Mrs. Marg Cook of Goderich and Lionel Gerrie of Wingham volunteered to serve on the cemetery committee and Mrs. ,.Alison Lobb of Clinton as chairman. The positions of nominations and fund raising chairmen were not filled. During the education portion of the meeting, Mrs. R. A. Chapman introduced Mrs. Lizzie Feagan as this month's member. speaker. Mrs. Feagan gave a •most interesti-n-g- and in— formative talk on her work in tracing both her own and 'her husband's- families usband's- families It was decided by the members that a workshop on "Beginning in Genealogy" be held on Saturday, September 27 at the Legion in Goderich. The workshop will be conducted by Dr. W. H. Minshall of London, who . is a past president of the Ontario Genealogical Society and will be open to . all persons interested in learning how to trace their family tree. Attendance will be limited and advance registration will be required. A workshop committee was - formed consisting of Mrs. Cathi Hubick, Mrs. R. A. Chapman and Bill Lifetime Clinton man dies Richard Steep A life-long, Clinton native, Richard Aldred (Dick) Steep died in University Hospital, London on August 11 following a two-month illness. He was 49 years old.. - Mr. Steep was born in Clinton on August 28, 1930 to Edward and Myrtle Steep. He worked for the department of highways and ministry of tran- "sportation and com- munication for 30 years and served on the executive of the Huron Conservation Association and was a member of the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. In October 1955, Mr. Steep was married to the former Jean Campman and the couple made their home at 172 North Street in Clinton were they raised one son Steven, now living in Clinton and a daughter Sandra, Mrs. Robert Hayter of Varna. Mr. Steep is survived by his family as well as his step -mother Mrs. Ann Steep of Seaforth and four grandchildren. Three sisters . Mrs. John (Dorothy) Horner of Creston, B.C., Mrs. Ormand (Ledith) ,Huckins of Goderich and Mrs. Albert (Helen) Craig of Bayfield and two ;brothers Joseph of Clinton and Fred of Listowel also survive. Mr. Steep was predeceased by his parents and his brother William. Funeral services were held a at the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton on, August 14. Rev. Norman Pick ,officiated, and interment followed in the Clinton Cemetery.
