The PGA tourney.
11from page 6.
The program helped
because you knew who to
expect next and their
previous scores. The
announcer would an-
nounce any past
PGA champs and once
the group had putted out,
the day's score and three-
day ,total.: Each time a
group came to the 18th a
rousing applause would
greet them, but on the
Saturday, the moment I
best remember was when
Arnie and his Army came
down the 18th fairway. He
needed no introduction -
everyone knew who he
was! The crowd was on
their feet as he walked
.down the 18th and the
applause was -deafening.
As the groups came in
we paid as much at-
tention to the caddies as
the player, since many of
the boys had visited
Seaforth. After Morley
and Koch finished the
third round tied, we
realized that on o unday,
Kenny and Ian "' ay be
caddying in the same
group. Talk about well
planned! That's exactly
what happened and so
after a brisk Sunday
morning swim it was
back to the course for the
final day.
Now that we had our
passes with us it was a
whole new ball game. No
crowded school bus
shuttle. We parked right
at the clubhouse and
spent some time
browsing in the pro, shop
and tents displaying the
many souveniers made
especially for the oc-
casion.,
With the two brothers
caddying in the same
group, we had the ideal
chance to follow them
and see just what they do
and how their men play.
For nine holes we
followed the boys and it
was just as interesting for
us to watch the caddies as
the players. Ian's man,
Gary Koch is more in-
clined to show his
displeasure with a bad
shot and it was obvious he
was not happy. More than
once Ian had to be quick
to grab a club tossed his
way a bit too zealously.
However,: _. during . the
corse of the round it was
apparent that Gary. and
Ian had a good. rapport.
The same was tie of
Kenny and Mike Morley,
although Mike appeared
to handle a poor situation,
in a more subdued
manner. As for the
caddies, well they ap-
peared to really love their
work. -
After nine we headed
back to the stands. It was
early but already space
was at a premium.I had
considered following
Nicklaus but I would have
needed a helicopter to see
what was going on. We
sat in the stands . nearly
six hours and by the end
of the day the people
sitting next to you were
like lifelong neighbours.
Thousands of people
would chat and laugh
while there was a lull in
the action, but when
someone was taking a
shot you could have heard
a pin drop.
We saw them all. The
big names like Trevino,
Watson, Palmer and of
course, Nicklaus. We saw
the rabbits like Koch,
Morley and Hataisky and
we saw our caddies, both
brothers and friends. We
saw terrible shots and
super shots and for days
afterwards it was pretty
hard to come down to
earth and back to that
darn slice!

Smith & Caven Down
Draft Stoves cite designed
and engineered * to
provide for hours and
hours of safe wood heat
on a minimum amount of$
fuel.
This is accomplished by
allowing the oxygen that
enters the stove through
the two down draft tubes
to mix with the gases con-
tained in wood smoke. By
passing this mixture
through the flame, com-
plete combustion results.
The Smith & Caven Down
Draft Is constructed from
top-quality 10 gauge mil
plate steel that has been
angle braced for extra
strength. The combustion
chamber is lined on all
sides and- bottom with
heat retaining fire -brick.
Several optional trim kits
aro available for your
Smith & Caven Stove.
SOME TYPICAL COMMENTS
"My stove kept our 1400 sgdare foot home warmer than
it has been since we moved in 10 years ago. We burned
very little wood too."
x'Our Smith & Caven easily burns 12 to 14 hours on an
arm load of hardwood."
"Thank you Mr. Smith and thank you Mr. Cavan. It's the
