A Clinton area man has
been charged. in 'con-
'riection, with the theft ,.of
Four mag wheels and tired
valued at $1,900 which
occurred on. July 26 at
West End Garage of
Mitchell Ltd.
A member of the
Mitchell Police Depar-
tment, Constable Charles
Zehr, and two QPP of-
ficers from the Listowel
detachment arrested the
man at Clinton late
Thursday afternoon, Aug.
7.
During the early
morning -of
pickup truck was seen
leaving the premises of
West End Garage with
the wheels and tires.
Police Chief Larry
Hembruff stated that, "in
their excitement
somebody wrote down the
wrong license number of
the truck. I chased him.
all the way to Seaforth
but he got away,
"We ran checks on the
possible correct plate
numbers and finally we
thought we had the right
one," said Hembruff. The ,
officers staked out the
RR2 Clintonfarmhouse
on Sunday, August 3 and
got a search warrant on
August 7 before arresting

Vanos says the truck is an
exact replica of the of -
"ficial pacersused for the
Indianapolis 500. -
The expensive wheels
can be bought in the area
but are the ' standard
equipment on the truck
which also features other
unique gadgets. Vanos
feels that whoever stole
the wheels meant to sell
them to someone for a
couple of hundred dollars
each.
Theaccused is
presently free on bail
pending a provincial
court hearing on August
25 in Stratford.

Afghanistan
ZURICH - Carol Erb is
returning to Afghanistan
tomorrow after a six-
week visit with her
family nearZurich.
Miss Erb is a secretary
to the medical director at
the- Noor Eye Institute in
Kabul, the capital city of
Afghanistan. She said her
has had no difficulties
getting in and out of
Afghanistan. Despite the
unsettled political
situation, work goes on as
usual at the eye institute
she said.
Miss Erb said that the
institute has a "good
relationship" with the
government. She said she
would rather not discuss
the situation in
Afghanistan because it
might jeopardize that
relationshi:-

Cycle robber'

block was set up by the
\way 21 in Colborne
'township on August 7 in
attempt to capture a man
who made his get -away
following a bank robbery
in Port Elgin.
The Port Elgin branch
of the Toronto Dominion
bank was held up by a
man Wielding a sawed-off
shotgun. He escaped on a
blue -grey Kawasaki
motorcycle with $105,000
of the bank's money.
The robber did not
attempt to disguise
himself in anstway and
the bank teller has been
able to identify hitn as a
30 -year-old Port Elgin
resident. A warrant for
his arrest has been issued
and the investigation into
therobbery continues.
The Canadian Bankers
Ass °elation and the
Ibronto Dominion Bank
are offering a $10,000
reward for information
leading to the arrest and
conviction of the thief.
